About The Position

This role will be responsible for operating and maintaining machinery involved in the production of aluminum cans while adhering to safety, quality, and production standards. The Production Operator will operate and monitor equipment such as can forming machines, presses, trimmers, liners, and other machinery involved in the can making process. They will inspect finished cans for defects, ensure proper dimensions, and perform quality checks to maintain product quality standards. The role also involves handling raw materials, loading materials onto machines, and monitoring material supply. Setting up machines according to production requirements, adjusting settings, and troubleshooting equipment issues to minimize downtime are key responsibilities. The operator will assist maintenance technicians with routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs. Optimizing machine performance, minimizing waste, and maximizing production output are crucial. Adherence to safety protocols, use of PPE, and maintaining a safe working environment are paramount. The role requires maintaining production records, logging downtime, reporting quality issues, and effective communication. Maintaining 5S principles, ensuring area cleanliness, and completing daily housekeeping assignments are also part of the job. This position is responsible for notifying management about actual or potential food safety issues and is empowered to act to resolve them within their scope of work.

Requirements

  • Has learned the basic skills and routine tasks necessary. Beginning to learn advanced skills and gaining an understanding of the total process flow.
  • Must have basic knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; or two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing environment, preferably in metal packaging or can making industry.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend and twist, reach with hands and arms, climb, stoop, kneel.
  • Requires repetitive movement with frequent use of hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls and hand-eye coordination.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus regularly.

  • Maintain production records, log equipment downtime, report quality issues, and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Maintain 5S principles and ensure optimal area cleanliness and housekeeping standards are consistently met to uphold a safe and organized work environment.
  • Complete daily housekeeping assignments to maintain a clean and organized work environment, contributing to continuous safety and quality improvement efforts.
  • Responsible and required to notify management about actual or potential food safety issues; and empowered to act to resolve food safety issues within their scope of work.
