About The Position

This role involves operating machinery, ensuring product quality, performing minor maintenance, and assisting coworkers. The Production Operator I is responsible for reading job specifications, setting up machines, monitoring operations, inspecting finished products, and reducing downtime. A strong emphasis is placed on safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical principles.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and adjust machine.

Responsibilities

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirement; sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.
  • Activates machine and observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Inspects finish product to determine accuracy of machine operation.
  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines and making adjustments.
  • Assists coworkers to set up machine, and to stack, mark, pack, and transport finished product.
  • Reduces downtime by assuring these tasks are performed promptly.
  • Complies with safety and GMP requirements.
  • Supports a culture of safe production and operations; follows all safety rules and procedures.
  • Actively participates in the safety program by engaging in training activities, reporting safety concerns, submitting safety suggestions, and correcting or reporting workplace health or safety hazards.
  • Assists with communicating safety information to new employees.
  • Fulfills responsibilities as outlined in the company safety management plan.
