About The Position

This role involves operating machinery, ensuring product quality, and performing basic maintenance. The Production Operator I will read job specifications, adjust machines, and monitor operations to detect defects or malfunctions. They will also perform minor machine maintenance, assist coworkers with setup and handling of finished products, and work to reduce downtime. Compliance with safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is essential. The position supports a culture of safe production by following all safety rules, participating in training, reporting hazards, and communicating safety information.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical principles.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and adjust machine.

Responsibilities

  • Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
  • Set stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.
  • Activate machine and observe machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Inspect finish product to determine accuracy of machine operation.
  • Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines and making adjustments.
  • Assist coworkers to set up machine, and to stack, mark, pack, and transport finished product.
  • Reduce downtime by assuring tasks are performed promptly.
  • Comply with safety and GMP requirements.
  • Support a culture of safe production and operations; follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Engage in training activities to learn what constitutes a safety hazard.
  • Report safety concerns to the supervisor.
  • Submit safety suggestions.
  • Correct or report to the appropriate people when a workplace health or safety hazard is observed, until it is resolved.
  • Assist with communicating safety information to new employees.
  • Fulfill responsibilities as outlined in the company safety management plan.
