About The Position

The Production Operator 1 works at the end of the production line and supports plant operations in alignment with Johns Manville’s core values of People, Passion, Perform, and Protect. The role focuses on safe production, package labeling and wrapping, product quality inspection, operation of packaging equipment and forklifts, material delivery, and housekeeping. Operators also assist with turnaround duties during plant maintenance downtime. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. The work takes place in an industrial manufacturing environment around heavy machinery, industrial ovens, and mobile equipment. The facility is not climate controlled, and conditions may be extremely hot and humid or cold. Work areas may have wet, dusty, or uneven surfaces, high noise, vibration, fumes, and airborne particles. Required personal protective equipment varies by policy and work area.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Forklift certification.
Ability to read, comprehend, and follow standard operating procedures and written instructions, and interpret equipment screens.
Ability to maintain written operations records as required.
Ability to perform the essential job functions, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling of 25 pounds and occasional lifting or moving of up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Visual acuity for working around and with machinery, including close, distance, and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

Support safe work practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company policies and compliance requirements.
Follow safety rules and procedures, report hazardous conditions, participate in safety programs, complete safety observations and training, and wear required personal protective equipment.
Read and follow standard operating procedures and written instructions, interpret equipment screens, and maintain required written operating records.
Set up, monitor, and troubleshoot labeler/applicator machines; apply labels manually as needed and ensure labels are correct and properly placed.
Ensure packages are shrink-wrapped to specification and inspect, identify, and disposition damaged packages.
Verify with a line lead or supervisor that the correct packaging specification is used during line changeovers.
Load, monitor, operate, and troubleshoot the semi-automatic package unitizer machine.
Reload stretch wrappers with film, thread the film, and restart equipment using the HMI.
Monitor edge trim and correct upset conditions.
Move product onto or off production lines manually as required.
Operate a forklift to off-load packages and transport them to the correct inventory location according to specifications and documentation.
Use mobile equipment to deliver raw materials to line locations as needed to prevent production interruptions.
Monitor and report equipment malfunctions and production issues to line lead or supervisor leadership.
Continuously inspect products for quality, correct labeling, and proper package count.
Perform housekeeping tasks throughout the shift as needed or directed.
Perform turnaround duties during plant maintenance downtime, including housekeeping, deeper cleaning, and operator maintenance tasks using tools such as shovels, air wands, brooms, scrapers, and chipping hammers.
Perform other duties as directed.
