About The Position

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the effective planning of the production facility. This includes leading employees and ensuring safety and quality procedures are met. The role involves directing plant operations within established quality, housekeeping, safety, and environmental guidelines, coordinating daily operations performed by hourly production employees to ensure safety, efficiency, and adherence to quality, housekeeping, and quantity levels. The manager will create and delegate work assignments, ensure personnel safety through compliance with regulations, and maintain an attitude that incidents are preventable. This role also involves providing employees with necessary resources and training, making recommendations for improvements to company programs, identifying and mitigating hazards, and communicating concerns to all employees. The Production Manager will listen to and respond to employee suggestions, address concerns, maintain good communication and morale, and keep plant management informed of matters affecting employees. Leading by example, the manager will encourage safe work practices, environmental awareness, and good manufacturing practices. They will identify training needs, develop training plans with the Plant Superintendent, and train/mentor employees. The role may involve performing production duties temporarily in emergencies, evaluating employee performance, providing feedback, and attending various meetings. Analyzing safety incidents, maintaining accountability, and conducting inspections are also key responsibilities. Providing positive reinforcement for good performance and driving colleague engagement in safety and continuous improvement efforts are expected. The Production Manager may perform reasonably similar or related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in continuous manufacturing operations, food production experience is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word etc.)
  • Ability to build, engage with, and motivate teams.
  • Experience in employee training and development.
  • Willingness to assume and learn new responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong organizational and accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to move about or to a work site by ascending/descending stairs, bending, kneeling and prolonged periods of standing and sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling or squatting frequently.
  • Ability to operate equipment or machinery that may be located at different heights; may require work on ladders, scaffolding or other work at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis, up to 55 pounds on an occasional basis and up to 50 pounds overhead.
  • Requires ability and willingness to wear respirators.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the operation of the plant facility within established quality, housekeeping, safety and environmental guidelines set by the company.
  • Coordinates daily operations performed by hourly production employees to ensure that work is performed safely and efficiently while meeting expected environmental quality, housekeeping and quantity levels established by the company.
  • Creates and delegates work assignments to all shift personnel that most effectively utilize their experience, training, and capability.
  • Ensures the safety of all personnel through compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Maintains an attitude that incidents are preventable.
  • Provides employees with resources, in good working order, to safely perform tasks and provides necessary training on operations and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements to company safety and environmental programs, quality and good manufacturing practices, and production and material handling procedures.
  • Recognizes environmental, safety, and GMP hazards and identifies, discusses, and contains hazards to avoid or mitigate risks to employee safety, product quality, and environmental purity.
  • Communicates concerns for the environment, health, safety and product quality with all employees.
  • Listens and responds to employee suggestions and concerns about safety, health, environment, product quality and housekeeping.
  • Addresses employee concerns and maintains good communications and morale on shift and within departments.
  • Keeps plant management informed of all matters affecting the morale and safety of employees.
  • Leads by example and encourages employees to work safely and with a constant focus on environmental awareness and good manufacturing practices.
  • Identifies training needs and communicates with Plant Superintendent to develop training plans.
  • Trains and mentors employees to develop a high level of job proficiency.
  • May perform production duties temporarily in the event of an emergency or employee absence.
  • Evaluate employee performance, and provide regular feedback to employees.
  • Attends and actively participates in supervisor meetings, operations area meetings, and safety meetings.
  • Analyzes safety incidents by preparing and completing Incident Analysis and Risk Management proposals within 24 hours of an incident.
  • Maintains accountability with all employees on shift and reviews any proposed disciplinary action steps with the Plant Superintendent and Plant Manager.
  • Conducts GMP, safety, health and environmental inspections.
  • Evaluates management programs.
  • Provide positive reinforcement/recognition to employees for good performance in production, quality, and safety.
  • Drive colleague engagement in safety and continuous improvement efforts.
  • May perform reasonably similar or related duties as required.

  • Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
