About The Position

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the Production Department staff, ensuring safety awareness, compliance with environmental regulations, and efficient production operations. This role involves managing personnel, developing improvement plans, analyzing production results, and maintaining the lowest possible production costs. The manager will also be responsible for administering established policies for performance management, staffing, training, employee relations, and compensation management. This position has significant budget responsibilities and requires strong leadership and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, squat, bend, twist and turn as needed to perform the job.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs multiple times throughout the shift.
  • Must possess good manual and mechanical dexterity to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear required safety equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Chemistry or Engineering is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safety awareness and monitor safety programs and trends.
  • Ensure safety meetings are conducted, investigate safety problems, and implement countermeasures.
  • Develop plans for improvements and maintain compliance with all environmental regulations.
  • Ensure fair and consistent practices, recommend promotions, salary increases, demotions, and transfers.
  • Manage Production Department staff, select and develop personnel, and identify training needs.
  • Counsel and motivate the team and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
  • Review, analyze, and monitor daily and monthly production results and trends against plant goals.
  • Develop resolutions through troubleshooting and corrective prevention.
  • Direct and lead all departmental activities consistent with plant goals (safety, production, waste, scrap, employee relations).
  • Countermeasure adverse trends and obtain/deploy resources as necessary.
  • Maintain lowest costs for production.
  • Educate and train the team in standard practices, process capability, and downgrade defect analysis.
  • Promote a high level of good housekeeping.
  • Audit SOP compliance, establish plans, and control points for achieving production requirements.
  • Communicate objectives to the team.
  • Interact and coordinate activities with support departments (maintenance, technical support, customer service).
  • Direct resources to improve and correct deficiencies and initiate countermeasures.
  • Submit monthly reports documenting results versus monthly budget expectations.
  • Actively audit safe conditions and safe behaviors every shift on the floor, upholding safety rules and policies.
  • Proactively address safety hazards and unsafe behaviors.
  • Model high safety standards (LOTO, proper PPE, no ear buds or phones on production floor, long sleeve shirts, dust masks, etc.).
  • Coach and drive 6S principles and improvements across the department and plant.
  • Drive Safety, Quality, Yield, and Productivity Continuous Improvement and lead projects.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the team to successfully operate their assigned production lines.
  • Ensure timely completion of needed training and active cross-training to standard/work procedures.
  • Be accessible to employees to create an open door and team-oriented culture.
  • Participate in meetings as needed and be responsive to email & phone communications.
  • Be active in personal leadership development and attend scheduled leadership & management trainings.
  • Passionately drive a continuous improvement culture.
  • Administer established policies for performance management, staffing, training, employee relations, and compensation management.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
