About The Position

Everett Ship Repair (ESR) is the Pacific Northwest’s premier ship repair facility. Located in Everett, Washington, ESR provides repair, maintenance, and conversion services for a wide range of commercial vessels, with a focus on workboats and passenger vessels. Since opening in 2019, ESR has built a reputation for high-quality workmanship, strong safety performance, and reliable project execution. We are seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead shipyard operations and execution of all service projects. This role provides overall leadership for production performance, safety, workforce development, and utilization of shipyard capacity, including dry docks and pier-side operations. The Production Manager reports to the General Manager and serves as the senior operational leader for production supervisors, craft personnel, and subcontracted labor. Scope of Responsibility The Production Manager leads all shipyard production operations at Everett Ship Repair and is accountable for safe, efficient execution of vessel repair projects across the facility. The role provides operational leadership for: Shipyard production supervisors and craft personnel across multiple trades Dry dock and pier-side production operations Execution of multiple concurrent vessel repair and maintenance projects Coordination of subcontracted labor, temporary workforce, and cross-yard labor support Production performance including safety outcomes, schedule adherence, labor productivity, and quality standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in industrial operations, marine repair, construction, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing production operations, including workforce supervision, budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning.
  • Strong understanding of shipyard production processes, vessel repair practices, and marine industry regulations.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, work specifications, contracts, and ship repair documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Naval Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in marine repair, shipbuilding, or heavy industrial operations.
  • Experience using project scheduling software such as Microsoft Project.
  • Proven success leading production teams in complex industrial environments with multiple trades and subcontractors.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve operational efficiency, production throughput, and project profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of all shipyard service projects, ensuring performance against safety, schedule, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Monitor project progress, labor utilization, and production performance; adjust plans to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Coordinate work across multiple trades, departments, and subcontractors to maintain efficient production flow.
  • Partner with Project Management to provide accurate operational updates on schedule progress, production risks, and resource requirements.
  • Provide leadership and direction to production supervisors and craft employees across all shipyard trades.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing workforce through recruiting, training, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability for safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Support workforce development initiatives including apprenticeship and trade training programs.
  • Develop and utilize operational metrics to improve efficiency, productivity, and schedule performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve production processes, reduce rework, and enhance shipyard competitiveness.
  • Support estimating and business development efforts by providing historical production data and efficiency benchmarks.
  • Ensure strict adherence to shipyard safety policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Oversee integration of quality control and testing processes throughout all phases of production.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable maritime regulations and classification society requirements.
  • Partner closely with Human Resources, Project Management, Estimating, Procurement, and Facilities to support efficient shipyard operations.
  • Manage temporary labor, subcontractor resources, and cross-yard workforce coordination as required.
  • Represent ESR with key stakeholders including the Port of Everett, regulatory agencies, and workforce development partners.
