About The Position

The Production Manager - 2nd Shift is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for overseeing daily production activities within our aluminum recycling and processing facility, including shredding, sorting, melting, and casting. This role plays a critical part in building a strong safety culture, developing high-performing teams, and ensuring efficient high-quality production. This position serves as the designated safety leader and is responsible for reinforcing a culture of safety, accountability, and respect. The Production manager maintains a visible presence on the production floor, supports employee performance and development, and collaborates across functions to ensure production, quality, and safety expectations are met.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • 3+ years of progressive supervisory or lead experience within same environment
  • Working knowledge of workplace safety practices and OSHA compliance requirements
  • Basic computer proficiency required
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to enforce quality and safety standards consistently

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the designated shift safety leader, enforcing safety & PPE standards, and actively driving a proactive, safety-first culture across all operations.
  • Ensure strict compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific procedures across the production floor.
  • Proactively identify and correct unsafe conditions or behaviors; lead routine safety observations, participate in incident investigations, resolve interpersonal or shift conflicts promptly, and implement immediate and long-term corrective actions.
  • Direct, coach, and support production employees through visible presence on the shop floor, fostering an environment of accountability, engagement, and mutual respect.
  • Ensure team members are fully trained, qualified, confident, and compliant with standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all assigned tasks, by establishing clear operational expectations, coaching and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain active oversight of the production floor and yard operations to ensure continuous process flow, optimal labor/equipment allocation, and uninterrupted staging for charge bay loads.
  • Partner closely with Materials Management to align daily shop floor execution with overall production schedules, customer priorities, and output targets.
  • Ensure adherence to SOPs and work instructions; grant final operational authorization for buttons, chemicals, and external materials based on quality, safety, and cost considerations.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance team on preventative maintenance schedules, assist in real-time troubleshooting to minimize unplanned downtime, and manage trough/equipment integrity for operational readiness.
  • Exercise independent judgment to provide final quality control approval for sows, determining readiness for downstream processing or customer shipment.
  • Partner with Commercial leadership, Materials Management, and the VP of Operations to refine production forecasts; accurately monitor, record, and report daily production metrics, attendance, and workforce data.
  • Manage inventory control for raw materials, in-process goods, and finished products; drive 5S housekeeping standards and actively identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across all production areas.
