Production Line Lead
About The Position
Oversee production line operations to ensure efficiency, quality, safety, and team performance. The role combines supervisory leadership, operational management, quality control, safety enforcement, and continuous improvement to keep the production line operating efficiently and meeting organizational goals. The Production Line Lead directs and develops operators, assigns tasks, conducts shift briefings, and ensures smooth shift handovers. The role also monitors production targets and performance indicators, operates machinery and assists with assembly when needed, enforces quality and safety procedures, supports process improvements, manages inventory and production records, and coordinates with other departments. The hourly rate is $17/hr.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a manufacturing leadership role.
- Must participate in the Tennessee Drug Free Workplace program and be able to pass drug tests and a criminal background check.
- Applicants with criminal convictions for violent crimes, use of a weapon in crimes, or crimes against children cannot be hired.
Responsibilities
- Direct and develop a team of operators; assign tasks and conduct shift briefings.
- Ensure smooth handovers between shifts and facilitate communication between shifts and departments.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and training for new and existing staff; maintain competency matrices and performance records.
- Monitor daily production targets and KPIs, including throughput, yield, and scrap rates, and implement corrective actions to meet efficiency and output goals.
- Operate machinery and assist with assembly tasks when needed.
- Ensure products meet quality standards; enforce SOPs, perform first-article inspections, and address defects through root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
- Maintain a safe work environment; enforce OSHA and other regulatory standards, conduct safety observations, lead near-miss investigations, and ensure proper PPE use.
- Identify bottlenecks, optimize workflows, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve flexibility and reduce downtime.
- Manage inventory and maintain production records.
- Coordinate with maintenance, quality, engineering, and supply chain teams to support on-time delivery and cost control.
- Conduct routine equipment troubleshooting and first-line mechanical or electrical adjustments.
- Support safety programs to improve behavior and prevent incidents.
