About The Position

This part-time position is responsible for programming, operating, maintaining, and executing studio lighting production. The role involves operating the lighting control console, programming lighting, and performing all lighting cue checks. The operator will also be responsible for replacing, adjusting, and fixing studio lighting fixtures, as well as overseeing and coordinating studio lighting maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting. This role contributes to all areas of studio support operations, including maintaining a safe workspace, managing storage systems, supplies inventory, set maintenance, props, and identifying potential hazards. The operator will work with the Stage Management team to maintain accurate stage marks and assist in prop/grip functions during live broadcasts. This position has a direct impact on the quality of broadcast presentation and requires attention to detail and the ability to facilitate professional lighting design.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5-7 years lighting experience in a major market.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and a proven track record in lighting and teleprompter operation.
  • Good organization and communication skills.
  • Experience in the familiarization and basic knowledge of newsroom operations and production processes.
  • Well versed in the operation of a wide variety of lighting instruments and PC based lighting control consoles, most specifically ETC ION.
  • Knowledgeable in all areas of video and lighting with the ability to troubleshoot problems as they arise.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office/Outlook experience.
  • Must be a member of IATSE or willing to join.
  • Willing to work varied shifts which may include mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Working knowledge of news operating systems including ENPS.

Responsibilities

  • Programming, operating, maintaining, and executing studio lighting production.
  • Operating lighting control console and programming of lighting.
  • Installing, hanging, focusing, and circuiting lighting equipment.
  • Operating teleprompter systems and news production operating systems.
  • Performing all lighting cue checks before and after shows and adjusting as required.
  • Replacing, adjusting, and fixing studio lighting fixtures.
  • Overseeing and coordinating studio lighting maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.
  • Contributing to all areas of studio support operations and maintaining a safe workspace, including storage systems, supplies inventory, set maintenance, props, lighting, fire aisles, identifying and reporting trip hazards.
  • Working with the Stage Management team to maintain accurate and up-to-date stage marks.
  • Assisting as needed in all props/grip functions on live broadcasts.
  • Making quick decisions and giving accurate instructions to stage personnel during live broadcasts.
