About The Position

The Production Lead is responsible for the production of finished goods at standard cost within established quality standards and safety guidelines. This role helps regulate the quality and flow of work in the plant, carries out production schedules, and is responsible for equipment changeovers, training personnel, and communicating material and tooling shortages. The Lead also assists in maintaining compliance with HR policies and practices on the shop floor, fostering a positive work environment, and reviewing the progress of production personnel through observation and analysis of non-conformances.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of equipment/fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • GED required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standards of operation, work instructions, blueprints, and other manufacturing documents of similar complexity.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from other departments and employees who work directly with him/her.

Nice To Haves

  • One to three years of experience in equipment changeovers, employee training, and high mix/low volume manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with production for his/her assigned shift, including training and completing assigned program tasks.
  • Lead the training and development of all production assemblers.
  • Ensure compliance with and consistent application of all HR policies and practices.
  • Work with leads and production supervisors to ensure proper utilization of manpower to meet established standards and continuously improve standard costs.
  • Coordinate various production operations with leads and production supervisors to ensure proper workflow through the plant.
  • Identify opportunities for scrap reduction and assist the Production Supervisor in prioritizing continuous improvement efforts.
  • Verify manufacturing processes according to approved methods and quality standards, ensuring units are within standard costs.
  • Work with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure the smooth transition of new products.
  • Develop and train subordinates to continuously improve their performance and skills.
  • Communicate continuous improvement, production schedules, safety, and quality with the Production Supervisor on a weekly basis.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive environment and communicate issues/concerns as they arise.
  • Ensure safe operations on his/her shift by identifying, communicating, and removing unsafe methods, procedures, or conditions.
  • Maintain discipline in manufacturing operations while promoting a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Ensure appropriate tooling changeover after program completion with leads and supervisors.
  • Aid in preventative maintenance to keep production equipment clean and running consistently.
  • Assist in gathering and maintaining appropriate inventory levels for the production floor.
  • Understand how to use a computer and Microsoft Office.
