About The Position

I & E Technician II is a journey level position responsible for independently performing installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation, control systems, and automation equipment used in oil and gas production, processing, and pipeline operations. Working under general supervision, the technician executes complex field tasks, provides technical guidance to Technician I personnel, and contributes to continuous improvement of maintenance programs. All work is performed in accordance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • 2–7 years of hands on experience in industrial instrumentation, automation, or electrical work in an oil and gas environment.
  • Proficient understanding of process instrumentation concepts including 4–20 mA loops, HART, Modbus, and Foundation Fieldbus.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair field instruments and control systems.
  • Experience with Emerson FB107, Emerson FB3000 or ABB (GS, G4, G5) platforms, including basic program review and modification.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; ability to travel to field sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Allen Bradley (Rockwell Automation), Siemens, or ABB PLC platforms including online program modification
  • Working knowledge of SCADA platforms (Ignition)
  • Prior experience in midstream or upstream oil and gas operations a plus

Responsibilities

  • Independently install, wire, and commission field instruments including pressure transmitters, flow meters, level sensors, thermocouples, RTDs, and control valves; perform loop checkout and functional testing with minimal supervision.
  • Lead scheduled preventive maintenance and calibration activities for instrumentation and control equipment; develop and refine calibration procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Diagnose and resolve malfunctions in field instruments, control panels, PLCs, RTUs, and associated wiring; apply structured root cause analysis to identify and address recurring failures.
  • Configure, modify, and troubleshoot SCADA, PLC, and RTU based control systems; execute and document changes in accordance with MOC procedures; support alarm management and HMI updates.
  • Independently install and maintain low voltage electrical systems, including intrinsically safe and explosion proof equipment in classified hazardous areas (Class I Div 1/2).
  • Create and maintain accurate work orders, calibration records, as built drawings, and equipment histories in the CMMS; identify and correct documentation deficiencies.
  • Provide day to day guidance and on the job training to Technician I personnel; review their work for quality and safety compliance.
  • Lead JSAs and field level risk assessments; ensure all work complies with HSE policies, OSHA regulations, API standards, and site procedures; actively promote a safety first culture.
