About The Position

North American Stamping Group (NASG), founded in 1978, is a privately held company and a leader in the manufacturing of stampings and automated assemblies for the automotive industry. As a Tier II supplier, NASG provides components, systems, and aftermarket products, with a core business in seating, ride control, exhaust components, heat shields, noise, vibration and harness (NVH), chassis and structural, and window regulators. The company has experienced significant annual sales growth, tripling its business over the last eight years. The Production Group Leader reports to the Production Manager and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all manufacturing activities within their designated area. This role involves motivating, training, and mentoring Team Leaders and Team Members, with a focus on Safety, Quality, efficiency, and cost reductions using NASG's TQPS principles. The Group Leader ensures adherence to standardized work processes and the use of Lean, 5-S, and TQPS tools to maintain and improve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in their area.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated Leadership, Communication, & Facilitation Skill Sets
  • Minimum three (3) years of press experience with progressive and/or transfer dies.
  • Weld assembly process experience is also preferred.
  • Demonstrated capability of using measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauging, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily and weekly safety inspections and training to ensure compliance with OSHA and corporate policies.
  • Ensure and enforce the use of safety blocks, lockout/tag out procedures, and safety curtains/guards.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, illnesses, and near misses, and work with Team Leaders to track performance and implement countermeasures.
  • Review and submit suggestions to improve the safety environment.
  • Train and coach Team Leads on creating a safe and engaged work environment.
  • Observe team members' techniques and improve methods to minimize physical burdens, collaborating with Safety and EH&S experts on ergonomics.
  • Develop and review 5-S plans, mentoring Team Leaders on desired standards and coaching on abnormalities.
  • Follow up on any 5-S conditions not within standard.
  • Assist Team Leaders in training team members in Standardized Work practices and follow up on concerns.
  • Observe that team members are following standard work, checking processes daily and ensuring all processes are checked weekly.
  • Lead by example to ensure consistency of standardized work.
  • Check for continuous improvement of Standardized Work and ensure changes are made or abnormalities are resolved.
  • Ensure adherence to the ongoing use of the Standardized Work Layered Process Audit system.
  • Perform checks to ensure Team Leads train using the standardized work teaching methodology.
  • Monitor the training, coaching, and mentoring of each trainee, and act as a resource to Team Leaders.
  • Confirm Team Leads validate job breakdown sheets and standardize work processes.
  • Assist in the training of audit team members in standardized work and ensure the Team Leader completes the training matrix.
  • Assist Team Lead in providing department/new hire orientation.
  • Audit part quality throughout the shift and assist with first/last off part quality checks.
  • Drive SMED and coach changeover times to meet or exceed targets.
  • Perform final visual audit inspection of all parts leaving the press area.
  • Verify containment pans and procedures are followed for poor quality or contaminated product.
  • Assist with Requisition of Corrective Actions related to Quality Issues.
  • Allocate manpower as needed to meet production requirements and adhere to targeted labor.
  • Ensure presses and equipment are running at targeted rates and submit TCS Worksheets if rates can be exceeded.
  • Provide direction to team leads and team members to maintain compliance with process standards.
  • Monitor the hourly production board and ensure team leads are keeping abreast of the current production rate.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise the activities of assigned personnel to meet production schedules and hold employees accountable.
  • Respond as primary support to team lead calls and escalate line downs immediately.
  • Continuously monitor and record KPIs for the boundary area, identifying and implementing countermeasures for abnormalities.
  • Back up team leads, provide first response to line problems, document issues, and resolve when possible.
  • Coordinate shift activities and personnel schedules to maximize throughput.
  • Fill-in as needed for any assigned job, including the Team Leader's role in case of absence.
  • Confirm quality of materials and finished goods.
  • Ensure set-up and operation of equipment in accordance with production requirements, procedures, and policies.
  • Enter Production data into ShopEdge accurately and efficiently.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Suggest methods of improvement and coach Team Leaders.
  • Produce and assist in writing and implementing process production documents.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce waste and increase effectiveness.
  • Complete and review production process documents.
  • Conduct walk-thrus to confirm adherence to daily activities.
  • Track team member time off, attendance, and training.
  • Follow overtime procedures for weekend and holiday work assignments.
  • Responsible for appraisal and discipline of work team members.
  • Review Production Lean Boards hourly.
  • Write and follow-up on Work Orders for repairs.
  • Assist other Manufacturing requirements as needed.
  • Lead actions to countermeasure a problem's root cause, monitor results, and standardize changes.
  • Be proactive in resolving problems and elevate the need for assistance.
  • Observe problems firsthand, investigate, and ensure an effective understanding of facts/data.
  • Practice, teach, and coach problem-solving utilizing the scientific method.
  • Deepen process learning through rapid low-cost trials/experiments.
  • Manage and monitor downtime, changeovers, and process improvements through KPIs.
  • Continuously improve safety, quality, and productivity through team huddle brainstorming sessions.
  • Mentor team leaders to continuously improve their processes towards True North.
  • Communicate with the next shift any and all issues/concerns.
  • Provide timely and effective feedback to team members.
  • Discuss information concerning safety, quality, inventory, production schedules, etc., in team meetings.
  • Listen and talk to team members to understand their concerns and issues.
  • Assure upward communication of cell issues and/or successes.
  • Complete required paperwork such as production record charts, quality information, and logbooks.
  • Evaluate and review goals with each team member, providing feedback, correction, or direction.
  • Ensure work cells are completed and replenished and KPI boards are updated.
  • Report all quality, production, or safety problems to the Production Manager.
  • Address problems, implement corrective actions immediately, and initiate temporary process changes if needed.
  • Ensure work orders are submitted for items needing repair.
  • Assist Team Leaders in tracking all Work Orders, Tooling, or Maintenance.
  • Review and issue die set-up sheets.
  • Be available for A.I. team meetings.
  • Ensure adequate information is passed to on-coming shifts.
  • Lead by example in promoting safety practices and policies.
