About The Position

Tutor Intelligence builds and deploys autonomous palletizing and case-pick robots for customers across the United States, and manufactures them at its facility in Watertown, Massachusetts. The Production Engineer works on the Production Engineering team within Operations and reports to the Head of Manufacturing. The role is an individual-contributor position with authority over whether an engineering change is ready to reach the factory floor. It serves as a technical bridge between Hardware Engineering, Supply Chain, Production, and Customer Success, supporting both the Cassie and Sonny product lines. The Production Engineer owns the end-to-end implementation of approved engineering changes, ensuring changes are planned, reflected in manufacturing systems and documentation, supported by the right materials, and verified on initial builds. The position also represents Manufacturing at the Change Review Board, plans inventory disposition and production cut-ins with Supply Chain and Materials, maintains work instructions, trains technicians, and partners with Field Service on retrofits for deployed robots. It drives data-based process improvement, provides design-for-manufacturing feedback to Hardware Engineering, helps shape in-house ECO and PLM tooling, and uses AI tools to support procedures, data analysis, and productivity. The role is onsite in Watertown, MA, with up to 25% travel. Compensation is $100,000–$150,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, and interview-level determination. Tutor describes its culture as collaborative and low-ego, with employees trusted to take ownership and solve problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to write work instructions that technicians use and to train technicians on the production floor.
  • Comfort with CAD such as Onshape, SolidWorks, or similar, and ability to read drawings, GD&T, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

  • Represent Manufacturing at the Change Review Board and assess changes for build impact, cost, inventory, scrap, and schedule before approval; push back when changes are not ready.
  • Plan production cut-ins with Supply Chain and Materials, including determining what to buy or stop buying and dispositioning existing inventory as use as is, rework, return, or scrap.
  • Write and maintain clear, visual work instructions and error-proof processes.
  • Train production technicians on every change before it reaches the line and confirm the updated process is followed correctly.
  • Partner with Field Service to plan and document retrofits for robots already deployed at customer sites.
  • Own and improve production-line performance, including first-pass yield, cycle time, scrap, and rework, using data.
  • Provide Hardware Engineering with early, specific design-for-manufacturing feedback.
  • Help shape in-house ECO and PLM tooling connecting Onshape, ION, and the factory floor.
