About The Position

The Production Engineer will ensure that all Hanwha Philly Shipyard safety procedures, rules, and regulations are followed and met. This role requires strong math and problem-solving skills to identify solutions and the ability to project manage tasks to completion. The individual will contribute time and effort as required to ensure success in meeting objectives. The Production Engineer will report to the production engineering manager and interface with planners, engineers, and other departmental personnel on production engineering-related issues. This role is directly accountable for the planning of safe lifting, supporting, installing, and movement of all blocks, grand blocks, and other structures. The Production Engineer will determine the center of gravity and develop a padeye arrangement plan, ensuring sufficient backup structure for safe lifting and installation. Flexibility is required to undertake assigned duties by the production engineering manager for specific assignments such as support of launching, docking, and outfitting equipment installation. The individual will be informed of priorities and allowed to schedule work as necessary to complete required tasks within guidance provided by the Supervisor. Responsibilities include performing design analysis and support calculations for various projects identified by yard-wide process improvement initiatives, build strategy requirements, and installation-related items. Other related and assigned tasks will be performed as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
  • Four to six (4 – 6) years’ experience in an engineering role with strong background in both mechanical and structural engineering.
  • Four (4) years’ experience in job specific discipline.
  • Familiarity with structural steel design is required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office software.
  • Familiarity with structural engineering software such as MSC-Patran or similar software.
  • Be able to familiarize yourself with shipyard terminology and facilities equipment, such as crane and transporters.

Nice To Haves

  • E. l. T. certificate desirable.
  • Applicants with experience in the engineering of moving and installing/or lifting large objects in an industrial or construction environment with the engineering of gear used to perform these lifts is a plus.
  • Experience with engineering software such as Auto-Cad, experience with Aveva Marine is a plus.
  • Proficiency with metric system preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience concerning modern shipbuilding practices is a plus.
  • International experience or familiarity with Asian Shipbuilding Standards is a plus.
