Production Engineer – Hydraulic Systems

TraysarAustin, TX
Onsite

About The Position

Traysar is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Production Engineer with deep expertise in hydraulic systems to join our team. This is a hands-on role focused on designing, building, integrating, and commissioning the hydraulic systems that power our autonomous heavy machinery. The ideal candidate has extensive experience building hydraulic circuits from the ground up, selecting and integrating hydraulic components, plumbing complete hydraulic systems, and commissioning hydraulic power packs for heavy equipment or industrial machinery. The machines you help build will be deployed to destroy hundreds of miles of tunnels currently used for terrorist activities. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers and report to the Mechanical Team Lead.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional experience working with hydraulic systems.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
  • Extensive experience designing, building, plumbing, and commissioning hydraulic systems for heavy equipment, mobile machinery, construction equipment, mining equipment, agricultural equipment, or industrial machinery.
  • Strong mechanical background with hands-on experience assembling and troubleshooting hydraulic equipment.
  • Experience reading and creating hydraulic schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience working from 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience designing and assembling complete hydraulic power packs (HPUs).
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic pumps, motors, proportional valves, servo valves, manifolds, accumulators, pressure control, flow control, filtration, and cooling systems.
  • Experience selecting hydraulic components based on pressure, flow, duty cycle, efficiency, and reliability requirements.
  • Experience routing hydraulic hoses and tubing for serviceability, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Hands-on experience commissioning hydraulic systems, including flushing, bleeding, contamination control, and performance tuning.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex hydraulic systems under field conditions.
  • Experience working directly with hydraulic suppliers and component manufacturers.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, tolerancing, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM/DFA).
  • Experience working with CNC machining, welding, fabrication, sheet metal, and additive manufacturing suppliers.
  • Proficiency with NX or SolidWorks.
  • Experience taking complex electromechanical systems from prototype through production.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design, build, and integration of complete hydraulic systems for autonomous heavy machinery.
  • Design and assemble hydraulic circuits, including hose routing, manifolds, valves, pumps, motors, cylinders, filters, reservoirs, accumulators, and instrumentation.
  • Specify, size, source, and integrate hydraulic power units (HPUs) and power packs to meet system performance requirements.
  • Develop hydraulic schematics and ensure they are translated into reliable, manufacturable hardware.
  • Coordinate the transition from detailed design to manufactured hardware, taking full responsibility for bringing hydraulic systems into production.
  • Serve as the primary interface with hydraulic suppliers, hose manufacturers, machine shops, fabrication vendors, and other external partners.
  • Review and approve manufacturing drawings, hydraulic schematics, BOMs, and assembly documentation before release.
  • Lead on-site assembly, plumbing, commissioning, bleeding, flushing, and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve hydraulic issues including pressure losses, flow restrictions, leaks, heat generation, contamination, and system instability.
  • Develop assembly procedures, inspection plans, test procedures, and production documentation for hydraulic systems.
  • Track component procurement, supplier lead times, system weight, cost, and production schedules.
  • Support machine testing, validation, and field operations, incorporating lessons learned into future designs.
