About The Position

The Production Drafter is responsible for developing complete and accurate shop drawings that enable the manufacturing plant to efficiently build all components required for modular home construction. This role ensures that all prints are build-ready, coordinated across disciplines, and aligned with customer orders and structural requirements.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of residential construction methods and building codes.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and cross-department coordination abilities.

  • Experience with modular or prefabricated construction preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review house plans for errors, omissions, and inconsistencies. Make necessary corrections and communicate all changes to Sales, Purchasing, and Production Control.
  • Verify that all items on the sales order are accurately reflected in the prints.
  • Review all beam and header specifications to ensure proper sizing, placement, and structural viability.
  • Develop floor framing by verifying joist layouts to avoid conflicts with plumbing and electrical systems, adjusting joist placement where required to maintain proper clearances, and adding and dimensioning rough openings for stairs, chases, and mechanical systems. Provide complete dimensions and layouts to support shop fabrication.
  • Develop ceiling framing by reviewing ceiling joists and/or truss layouts to prevent interference with lighting and plumbing fixtures, adjusting framing components as needed, and including rough openings for stairs, chases, and mechanical systems. Fully dimension all components for accurate production.
  • Develop electrical layouts by dimensioning all electrical fixtures, including lighting and receptacles, clearly indicating fixture mounting heights, and ensuring the layout aligns with framing and structural components.
  • Develop plumbing layouts for Ranch Homes by identifying and labeling vent locations and sizes for all plumbing fixtures. For Cape-Style Homes, identify vent locations and sizes and provide layout for future plumbing needs (e.g., second floor expansion). For Two-Story Homes, develop complete second-floor drain layouts within open joist systems, show first-floor vent routing across ceiling framing, ensure drains are located within properly sized walls, and confirm all fixtures are accurately dimensioned and coordinated.
  • Produce detailed partition layouts for all areas of the home, including required blocking, flats, and structural supports. Provide clear instructions to assist wall panel construction crews.
