About The Position

The Herff Jones Cap & Gown division is looking for a Production leader to join our operations team. This position would oversee the strategic and execution of the production function in our Indianapolis Cap & Gown plant.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years’ experience in Production Control and/or Scheduling/Planning
  • Fundamental understanding of capacity planning, scheduling and production flow.
  • Multi examples of establishing priorities and work independently.
  • Experience leveraging modern technology to communicate and manage data: Sending e-mails, working with word processing and spreadsheet software programs. (Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Proven ability to communicate across departments and work with peers to achieve goals.
  • Previous success in a faced paced environment with multiple priorities on daily basis.
  • Ability to work well with people having different ethnic, social, or educational backgrounds; understand the cultural differences of different groups.
  • Daily activity includes but is not limited to lifting, carrying, sitting, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking, bending, twisting.
  • Reading, communication, math.
  • Working at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to regularly lift/move up to 50lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and maintain planning and scheduling with department and with manufacturing to achieve on-time targets, while positioning the production departments to achieve maximum production and scheduling efficiencies (Balance Scorecard – SQDIC – Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, & Cost).
  • Schedule and load all new jobs into the department schedules and maintain them on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Lead a team of clerks and assistants daily to ensure goals are being met and work is distributed across the plant.
  • Enforce controls in process to understand work progress by job, print-run accuracy, and timeliness of work completion within capacity bounds.
  • Follow up with work in process to ensure on time completion, moving to downstream departments/work centers as required.
  • Act as Liaison between DC Manager, Production, and Customer Service Representatives.
  • Be involved in materials and labor planning to ensure adequate resources and materials are available to fulfill demand.
  • Develop material planning tools to provide timely manufacturing requirements to avoid expedited materials requirements.
  • Lead the production control function, reassuring efforts to align with inter-department schedules.
  • Partner with Customer Service leaders to develop, map and implement processes for rush and remake orders.
  • Maintain good relations between groups to ensure good, timely and necessary communications take place while enhancing teamwork.
  • Build and manage the annual budget for your respective departments in line with the overall manufacturing schedule and goals.
  • Participate in bi-weekly meetings with department leads and DC Manager involving overall efficiencies, production plan, and schedule attainment.
  • Provide production updates to the DC Manager and management group via weekly production meetings and daily production reporting.
  • Manage signals distributed in a timely and sequenced manner to distribution teams (Print Runs and DC ticket accuracy and timeliness).
  • Actively participate in daily walkthroughs, understanding metrics and their drivers, and troubleshooting of operations.
  • Maintain safe work practices to help ensure plant wide safety goals are met.
  • Schedule staff production requirements and hold daily team meetings to communicate goals.
  • Provide annual performance reviews to direct reports.
  • Review and approve hiring, new positions, or consolidation of positions requests, and hold employee counseling and termination meetings.
  • Prepare written job descriptions for any new positions and review existing job descriptions to keep current.
  • Review and approve employee timecards on a weekly basis for payroll deadlines.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, programs and legal regulations regarding employment, safety, employee relations and training.
  • Day-to-day management of direct reports to assist them as they handle situations relating to functions including but not limited to: organization, communication, achieving goals, customer interactions, and scheduling production for maximum efficiency and quality.
