About The Position

The Production Control Specialist is responsible for coordinating and controlling production activities to ensure efficient manufacturing operations, on-time delivery, and effective utilization of resources. This role serves as a key link between planning, purchasing, inventory, engineering, production, and shipping functions, ensuring that materials, schedules, work orders, and production priorities are aligned to meet customer and business requirements. The Production Control Specialist maintains accurate production data, monitors work-in-process, supports inventory accuracy, and proactively identifies opportunities to improve production flow, scheduling, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in production control, manufacturing planning, scheduling, inventory control, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Experience reading and interpreting Bills of Material (BOMs), engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation preferred.
  • Strong understanding of production scheduling, inventory control, material planning, and manufacturing operations.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to identify scheduling conflicts, material constraints, and production bottlenecks while developing effective solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities, including interaction with suppliers and multiple manufacturing locations.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy and process compliance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Primary work location must be on-site in the Gordonsville, TN facility.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and traverse manufacturing and warehouse environments for extended periods while monitoring production activities.
  • Use of hands and manual dexterity for computer operation and office equipment; visual acuity required to review drawings, production documentation, ERP systems, and reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal means with employees, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Operations Management, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage production schedules to support customer delivery commitments, capacity requirements, and operational objectives.
  • Create, issue, print, and maintain work orders, job travelers, and related production documentation to ensure accurate shop floor execution.
  • Review Bills of Material (BOMs) and develop production travelers, organizing work into logical subassemblies or manufacturing sequences when appropriate.
  • Verify material availability prior to releasing jobs and coordinate with purchasing and suppliers to resolve delivery issues or material shortages.
  • Monitor and control the flow of materials between inventory, staging, and production areas to prevent shortages, delays, and disruptions.
  • Track work-in-process (WIP) and provide timely visibility into production status, priorities, bottlenecks, and schedule adherence.
  • Release jobs to production based on material availability, labor capacity, production priorities, and sequencing requirements.
  • Monitor production progress through regular shop floor presence to assess build status, material availability, inventory, floor utilization, and production priorities.
  • Support inventory accuracy through ERP transactions, cycle count activities, inventory reconciliations, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Monitor inventory levels for stocked and non-stocked materials and coordinate replenishment activities with the appropriate departments.
  • Review remaining materials upon job completion and coordinate appropriate disposition, including transfers to inventory, supplier returns, reassignment to future jobs, or resolution of shortages.
  • Collaborate with planning, purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, inventory, and shipping teams to align daily production activities and ensure efficient operational execution.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination across multiple facilities, departments, and functional teams as needed.
  • Maintain accurate data within ERP/MRP systems, including job status updates, material consumption, inventory transactions, and production completion reporting.
  • Analyze production performance and identify scheduling conflicts, material constraints, capacity limitations, and process inefficiencies; recommend practical solutions to minimize production disruptions.
  • Assist in evaluating production flow and shop layout to optimize floor space utilization and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Prepare and organize production documentation, drawings, specifications, and related information to support internal manufacturing or external suppliers as needed.
  • Support production ramp-ups, new product introductions, and business growth initiatives by establishing effective production control processes and operational discipline.
  • Generate and maintain reports related to production schedules, inventory status, work orders, and key operational metrics.
  • Promote adherence to company policies, quality standards, safety requirements, and manufacturing best practices.
