About The Position

MoMA PS1 is seeking part-time Production Assistants to collaborate with members of the Program Production and Special Events staff. The role involves supporting and executing PS1's schedule of public programs, live events, performances, talks, openings, private events, and rentals. Production Assistants will work across departments including Program Production, External Affairs, Curatorial, Operations, and Visitor Engagement. Key duties include assisting with the planning and execution of live events, encompassing technical production, stage management, sourcing and fabricating materials, managing A/V equipment, inventory, and rentals, and providing hospitality and support to artists and clients. This is a project-by-project, part-time role contingent on MoMA PS1's programming, event schedule, and technical requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum one-year experience successfully working in event production, live arts programming, or related areas in a museum, gallery, theater, entertainment, or arts non-profit.
  • Superior knowledge and hands-on experience with one or more of the following: Audio production, including operating a digital professional live sound mixer, as well as digital audio workstation; Video production; Lighting production/design, as typically used in live performance and event production; Event installation, production logistics, vendor coordination, artist and talent hospitality and on-site event operations.
  • Strong intrapersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work productively and collaboratively with all levels of management, support staff, and temporary hires and maintain a highly professional and positive attitude in a dynamic and creative setting.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage time effectively, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing deadlines and priorities.
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional resourcefulness, creativity, and flexibility; display good judgment; problem-solve and take initiative; exercise tact and diplomacy at all times.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Docs and other standard office procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of, and interest in, contemporary art and PS1 and its programming.
  • Availability to work weekends and overtime hours.
  • Must be able to work fully on-site at MoMA PS1; there is no remote or hybrid work option for this position

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Senior Project Manager of Music, Performance, and Events, External Affairs Events Manager, and Program Production Coordinators to support the planning, organization, and execution of MoMA PS1 live events including Warm Up, Open House, Night at the Museum, and other museum-wide performances, special events, and rentals.
  • Provide on-site technical and production assistance for events, including set up, installation, A/V engineering, stage management, and hospitality for artists.
  • Assist with coordination, upkeep, and organization of MoMA PS1’s in-house technical and event production inventory and storage.
  • Assist with sourcing, pick up, load-in, and load-out of technical gear and backline from appropriate vendors.
  • Provide on-site production assistance for events, including event installation, site preparation, vendor coordination, stage management, artist and talent hospitality, and day-of-event operations.
  • Assist with rehearsal coordination and day-of-event logistics for artists, performers, and collaborators.
  • Provide audio engineering during openings, talks, and other special events and assist with technical needs during onsite rehearsals with artists and collaborators.
  • Sustain good working relationships with vendors and contractors.
  • Attend production and planning meetings, and site visits, as necessary, within the Program Production department, across other museum departments, and with artists and event participants.
