About The Position

The Production Assistant will complete driving routes for pickup and/or drop off of donations at the warehouse, assigned donation boxes, and donor homes. This position is non-exempt and reports to the General Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Administrator, or Director of Business. The role involves operating a vehicle safely, maintaining it, and representing The Salvation Army courteously to customers. It also includes assisting with loading/unloading, ensuring the security of goods, and providing support to thrift store personnel. Additionally, the position involves instructing and supervising a Truck Helper, serving as a positive example for those in a work therapy program.

Requirements

Must be able to communicate effectively.
Valid driver’s license for assigned vehicles and acceptable DMV record.
Must pass driving test.
Must be able to read maps and plan and prioritize daily route coverage.
Must be able to use iPad with GPS, texting, and truck inspection report.
Must have good communication and customer service skills.
Medical card required depending on city and/or state requirement.
Passing a DOT Physical is a requirement of the job.

Nice To Haves

The position will support the work therapy program component of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by providing beneficiaries with an example of professional conduct and work habits.

Responsibilities

Complete driving routes for pickup and/or drop off of donations.
Ensure the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment.
Report all accidents involving the truck, personal injury, or property damage promptly to the supervisor and complete necessary paperwork.
Perform daily walk-around inspections of the vehicle, checking essential items to maintain equipment in good operating condition.
Report any vehicle problems immediately to the supervisor.
Ensure the truck cab and box are clean and personal items are removed daily.
Plan daily routing based on assigned pick-ups and complete all scheduled calls.
Act as a personal representative of The Salvation Army, ensuring courteous customer treatment and appropriate acceptance or refusal of donations.
Strictly follow the “Manual for Production Assistants”.
Report any problems in pickups immediately to the dispatcher.
Maintain a professional appearance in compliance with the company dress code.
Maintain complete and accurate records.
Adhere to communication procedures.
Load and unload the assigned truck and others as requested.
Take proper care to secure and safely handle goods and materials during loading and unloading, using blankets, ropes, etc., to avoid movement, breakage, or damage, and to make optimum use of space.
Provide assistance to Thrift Store personnel when delivering items to ensure proper placement and location within the store.
Instruct and supervise the Truck Helper, serving as a positive example of professional conduct and work habits.
Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or Administrator.
