The primary responsibility of this role is to safely feed/pack product glued on the machine to acquire quality product at the desired target speed of each run. The secondary responsibilities involve feeding blanks into the machine, monitoring for quality and jams, notifying the operator of issues, and maintaining adequate blank supply. Packing duties include filling cases with the correct count, ensuring proper fit, and notifying supervisors of any issues. The role also requires maintaining quality standards, participating in teamwork, cross-training, packing according to work orders, utilizing downtime effectively, communicating with team members, wearing appropriate PPE, welcoming process updates, minimizing downtime, maintaining a clean work environment, and following all safety procedures. The position may also involve assisting in other areas or departments and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software.
• Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English.
• Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
• Ability to lead others that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from the supervisor and other written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Safely feed/pack product glued on the machine to acquire quality product at the desired target speed of each run.
• Remove blanks from a pallet, check for quality, and place them into the feed hopper of the gluer machine, maintaining proper load heights.
• Observe blanks flowing through the machine for quality and jam-ups, and alert the Operator of problems or stop the machine.
• Notify the Operator before a new pallet of blanks is needed, maintaining adequate blanks into the hopper to ensure no interruption in run speeds.
• Pack cartons according to work order instructions by verifying counts, weighing cartons, and following job ticket and labeling instructions.
• Maintain quality standards by learning defective characteristic for products, sorting defective parts, and communicating with Machine Operator, Supervisor, and Quality Control staff.
• Participate in teamwork: work with others to improve operations, reduce waste, maintain lean manufacturing goals and requirements, answer questions, and communicate with other staff as needed.
• Cross train by rotating to different machines and work areas.
• Effectively utilize any machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by performing other tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment or as otherwise instructed by a supervisor.
• Communicate well with other team members.
• Wear appropriate PPE for the task and the area.
• Welcome updates and improvements to processes and follow new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation.
• Perform work in a manner that keeps downtime to a minimum.
• Maintain a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S systems.
• Follow all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines. Use situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions.
• May be asked to help with duties in other areas or departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
