Production Area Manager

About The Position

The Area Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating production operations across multiple lines, shifts, or work centers through direct leadership of Line Supervisors and production support teams. This role ensures safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people objectives are achieved while driving operational excellence, workforce development, and continuous improvement. The Area Manager partners with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Scheduling to resolve issues, improve processes, support business priorities, and ensure compliance with Biomerics’ standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 4 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing, medical device, or regulated production environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities, allocate resources, and drive results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing tools, continuous improvement methods, GMP, and ISO 13485 quality management system standards.
  • Ability to analyze operational data, identify trends, communicate performance gaps, and implement corrective actions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and experience working with ERP, production tracking, or related business systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust, develop talent, hold teams accountable, and influence cross-functional partners.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, walk, and bend for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • May require occasional bending, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime or alternate schedules as business needs require.

Nice To Haves

  • associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or technical certification in Operations, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 6–8 years of hands-on operational, technical, quality, or production management experience preferred.
  • Prior experience leading supervisors, leads, or multi-shift production teams preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations across assigned production areas to ensure safety, quality, delivery, inventory, cost, and productivity targets are met.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, performance feedback, and development support to Line Supervisors, Lead Operators, and other assigned production personnel.
  • Plan staffing, labor allocation, and production priorities across multiple work centers or shifts to meet customer demand and business objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze operational KPIs, including safety performance, yield, labor efficiency, scrap, rework, utilization, schedule attainment, and delivery performance; implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Drive compliance with SOPs, GMP, ISO 13485, quality system requirements, and company policies across assigned areas.
  • Lead lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, standard work, visual management, Kanban, waste reduction, and workflow optimization.
  • Facilitate effective communication between shifts, departments, and leadership to ensure alignment, escalation of issues, and timely resolution of production constraints.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Scheduling, Supply Chain, Maintenance, and Human Resources to resolve operational issues, support root cause investigations, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support new product introductions, process validations, equipment readiness, and production ramp-up activities within assigned areas.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, workforce planning, performance management, and talent development; recommend merit increases, promotions, and performance-based actions as appropriate.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, respect, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement throughout the production organization.
  • Ensure supervisors and teams maintain accurate production records, training documentation, and performance reporting to support operational and regulatory requirements.
