About The Position

The Herff Jones Cap and Gown team, based in Indianapolis, IN, is looking for an Inventory Control Lead to join our team. This position reports to the Sr. Operations Manager. The Inventory Control Lead is responsible for supporting the daily execution of inventory control activities within the Indianapolis facility. This role serves as a hands-on resource for the inventory team, helping coordinate daily priorities, maintain inventory accuracy, resolve inventory discrepancies, and ensure materials and products are available to support operational needs. The Inventory Control Lead will work closely with operations, warehouse, planning, and other departments to support efficient inventory flow and ensure established inventory procedures are consistently followed.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years’ experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, manufacturing, or a related environment
  • Previous lead or demonstrated leadership experience
  • Experience with ERP/MRP or inventory management systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and inventory reporting
  • Knowledge of cycle counting, inventory reconciliation, material movement, and inventory accuracy
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to provide direction to team members and work effectively across departments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX or D365 is highly preferred
  • Experience in a seasonal warehouse or manufacturing environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a day-to-day lead for inventory associates, providing direction and helping prioritize daily workload.
  • Coordinate inventory activities, including receiving, stocking, material movement, cycle counts, and inventory adjustments.
  • Monitor inventory systems to ensure deliveries, shipments, transfers, and stock levels are accurately recorded.
  • Research and resolve inventory discrepancies, shortages, incorrect locations, and transaction errors.
  • Coordinate cycle counts and physical inventory activities to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Monitor inventory levels and escalate potential shortages or concerns to management.
  • Partner with warehouse, operations, and planning teams to resolve inventory-related issues.
  • Train and guide team members on inventory processes, procedures, and systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy, material flow, and overall efficiency.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and productive work environment while escalating employee or operational concerns as needed.
