About The Position

The Product Sustaining Engineer provides engineering support for the existing Amtrol product portfolio, ensuring products, drawings, specifications, bills of material, and engineering documentation accurately reflect design intent, manufacturing requirements, and customer expectations. The role connects Product Engineering, Operations, Quality, Purchasing, Commercial, and other partners to sustain product availability, quality, manufacturability, and customer experience. The engineer translates product and customer requirements into accurate engineering documentation, with significant responsibility for drafting, Engineering Change Order (ECO) execution, product-data management, and resolution of production and supplier-related product issues. The role supports residential and commercial products and identifies opportunities to improve design, documentation, manufacturability, cost, quality, and engineering processes. It also supports New Product Development activities as needed to ensure effective transitions of new products and components into production.

Requirements

  • Strong drafting and mechanical-design capabilities, including the ability to create and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including creating and modifying 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, manufacturing processes, tolerances, materials, and design-for-manufacturability principles.
  • Experience with PDM/product-data-management systems and engineering-document control.
  • Strong computer skills, including SolidWorks, PDM, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Wrike, and related engineering/business systems.
  • Demonstrated technical ownership, attention to detail, sound engineering judgment, effective communication, and ability to build cross-functional working relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent technical education and relevant engineering/design experience may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and ability to create or modify REVIT files.

Responsibilities

  • Lead drafting and design-documentation activities for existing residential products while supporting commercial product needs as required.
  • Create and modify 3D models, 2D drawings, component specifications, subassemblies, and finished-good drawings to reflect product and customer requirements.
  • Maintain engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and related technical documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Create redline drawings and bills of material to support engineering changes.
  • Create and modify REVIT files as required to support product and commercial needs.
  • Lead Engineering Change Order activities for assigned product families, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely implementation.
  • Identify and resolve documentation gaps, legacy drawing issues, and product-data discrepancies that could affect production, sourcing, quality, or customers.
  • Support continuous improvement of the ECO process, including first-pass accuracy, cycle time, and implementation effectiveness.
  • Provide technical engineering support to Operations and Quality for product-related design, application, and manufacturing concerns.
  • Support PPAP submissions and rejections from a product-design perspective, aligning drawing specifications with actual product requirements.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Operations to resolve non-conforming components, materials, and processes and minimize production disruption.
  • Serve as an onsite PDM subject-matter expert, supporting engineering-team needs, product documentation, and system utilization.
  • Serve as an onsite Wrike subject-matter expert, supporting project execution, workflow management, and team adoption.
  • Maintain engineering-document control and ensure current product information is accessible to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Support New Product Development activities as needed to transition new products and components into production.
