About The Position

Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is a global organization focused on building and advancing the technological backbone for Disney’s media business. The team combines technology with creativity to develop world-class products, enhance storytelling, and drive innovation and scalability. Technologists in this area design and build products and platforms for media, advertising, and distribution businesses, impacting millions of users globally through platforms like Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. The Product Engineering team is responsible for the engineering of digital and streaming products, including personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity. Specifically, the Fantasy Platform Engineering team builds systems for games on ESPN, such as Fantasy League Manager and Prediction Games, scaling to millions of users. The Product Software Engineer will contribute to platform development by delivering efficient back-end code, collaborating with stakeholders, and working with other engineering teams. The ideal candidate is a passionate, impactful, technical leader who is accountable, collaborative, and brings innovative insights.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with Java programming language, Spring Framework, and Maven dependency management.
• Understanding of API design and distributed web service architecture.
• Expertise with full lifecycle of application development, including best practices of unit testing, code reviews, documentation, etc.
• Awareness of dev-ops workflows and related technologies.
• Experience leveraging cloud platform services, preferably within AWS.
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
• Can effectively articulate complex ideas and influence others through well-reasoned explanations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skill with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

• Enjoy working within a team setting of engineers of varying experience.
• Experience using modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, or similar) to improve code quality, accelerate development, and enhance documentation.

Responsibilities

• Write efficient, reliable, and testable code from requirements.
• Design and implement automated code and system tests.
• Review, analyze, and optimize code for readability, reliability, and performance.
• Instrument, monitor, and support live operations of systems owned by the team.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues, problems, and errors across company platforms.
• Contribute and review code, set standards, and work with engineers to ensure product and design specifications are met.
• Test code through various means: unit tests, integration tests, performance tests etc.
• Maintain a deep understanding of core systems and their interactions.
• Responsible for fundamental platform performance, scalability, and resiliency.
• Contribute to cross-functional troubleshooting of complex issues.
