Product Security Engineer, Intern (Summer 2027)

Meta•Menlo Park, CA
•$7,313 - $11,293

About The Position

Meta is hiring an AI-first Product Security Engineer Intern for its Product Security team. The team detects, prevents, and mitigates risks involved in building software, using machine learning, automation, and intelligent systems to advance vulnerability research and secure software development. Product Security Engineers partner with engineering and product teams to provide and develop AI-enhanced guidance and tooling that reduce security and privacy risks for Meta products used by more than 3 billion people. The internship focuses on either Web Security or Native Security. Web Security involves securing web applications and APIs and developing robust browser protections, with work across languages including PHP, Python, Perl, and Ruby. Native Security involves securing C, C++, and Rust code used in Meta apps, servers, devices, media and file parsers, encrypted messaging, real-time calling, and shared native libraries. The team uses AI agents and fuzzing to find and reproduce memory-safety vulnerabilities, applies mitigations such as sandboxing, hardware memory tagging, and control-flow integrity, and promotes memory-safe languages such as Rust.

  • Experience writing software that supports security processes and integrates AI/ML capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience applying machine-learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch to security problems.
  • Experience with AI-powered security tools, automated penetration testing, or intelligent threat detection systems.
  • Contributions to the security community, such as public research, blogging, presentations, or open source, particularly concerning AI in cybersecurity.
  • Coursework or projects involving AI/ML applications in cybersecurity, anomaly detection, or automated vulnerability discovery.
  • Intent to return to a full-time degree program after completing the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual design and implementation security reviews, augmented by AI tools, for Meta products and services.
  • Build machine-learning-based tools for security automation, including static and dynamic analysis, and develop frameworks that scale security across products.
  • Research, develop, and apply mitigations using LLMs and other machine-learning technologies to identify vulnerabilities and prevent exploitation.
  • Contribute to fine-tuning AI agents for security use cases, threat detection, and vulnerability assessment.
