General Purpose: The Product Process Engineer will have direct input into the manufacturing process. This role has key responsibilities for a range of process flow activities to ensure the manufacturing plant achieves optimum production output, sustains quality requirements, and maintains regulatory compliance. In addition, this role works alongside other engineering staff, maintenance, operations, and chemical operators to ensure proper design, procurement & construction processes are followed, and capital projects are put in place to enhance manufacturing efficiency. Leads activities that include the development or modification of chemical formulations and processing technology to meet business objectives. Supports customer base through troubleshooting, problem solving, specification development, coordination of quality assurance requirements, and translates customer requirements into manufacturing standards and instructions. Some travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Should have knowledge of Database software, Design software, Manufacturing software, Order processing systems, Project Management software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software including MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, and Outlook.
  • BS Degree in Engineering or related field preferred
  • Computer skills are a must with knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills and experience applying technology through teamwork
  • Knowledge of manufacturing concepts and the ability to grasp technology quickly

  • Experience working in a union environment preferred
  • Experience in both batch and continuous operations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Carry out process improvement/optimization work including planning and supervising in production trials and determining areas requiring process improvements and coordinating efforts to attain such
  • Translates customer requirements into manufacturing standards and instructions
  • Coordinate the evaluation of new and current materials to consistently maintain and improve processing methods and test procedures through coordination with R&D, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and Plant Engineering personnel and by thorough independent research of new equipment and processes.
  • Provide support to operations and R & D in evaluation of new process equipment providing technical backup and knowledge to improve quality of existing products and/or product development
  • Resolution of customer use problems through investigation of materials and /or processing parameters and recommendation of corrective actions
  • Determines the test methods, procedures, parts, and equipment needed to implement engineering changes that result in production improvements and cost effectivenes
  • Trouble-shoot chemical and process related operating problems
  • Review process control and SOP’s
  • As business needs dictate, will work with other engineering staff and outside contractors to implement projects
  • Monitors process equipment to identify potential errors and develops solutions to eliminate the reoccurrence of those problems
  • Will monitor project progress to ensure contractors are qualified and receive sufficient communication to ensure a “Safety First” culture and successful startup
  • Supports Quality Assurance activites and personnel associated with all product lines.
  • Assist with development of short and long-term capital plans
  • Attend professional and technical functions
  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping and instrument drawings (P&ID’s)
  • Use computer modeling and simulations to design and evaluate process and operating systems
  • Upholds safety, health, environmental procedures, communicates directly and supports the EHS department to ensure OSHA and EPA compliance at all times
  • Interacts with Engineering, Maintenance, and Technical, Purchasing, Traffic, Quality, Safety, Accounting, Human Resources, contractors and others
  • Assists with designs and scheduled Plant trials to determine performance capabilities.
  • Maintain 5S Standards and actively participates in Plant 5S activities.
