Product Owner - Finance & Accounting Systems

Silco Fire & Security•Cincinnati, OH
•Onsite

About The Position

Silco Fire & Security is seeking an experienced Product Owner with Product Owner and Business Systems Analyst experience to serve as the primary technology partner to its Finance and Accounting teams. The position reports to the Chief Information Officer and acts as an internal consultant, learning how the business operates, translating needs into a prioritized backlog, and presenting practical options with clear trade-offs based on what the systems can support. The role requires enough technical understanding to identify risks, constraints and opportunities, and to conduct analysis that informs business decisions. The Product Owner will own the Finance and Accounting reports and dashboards backlog and represent the teams in Silco’s upcoming ERP replacement. This includes requirements definition, vendor evaluation, fit-gap analysis, data migration and reconciliation, testing, cutover planning and change management. The role will help simplify processes and reporting during the ERP transition, monitor system and process performance, and improve delivered solutions based on user feedback. The position is full-time and on-site in Cincinnati, Ohio. Work is primarily in an office environment, with occasional travel to branch locations.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of combined experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst or Business Systems Analyst, with a track record of delivering successful solutions.
  • Experience delivering in agile and hybrid environments and a solid understanding of agile principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and facilitation skills, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences and influencing decisions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including balancing competing priorities and making data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and validation.
  • Working knowledge of core finance and accounting processes, such as purchasing, payroll, month-end close and reconciliations.
  • Solid understanding of system integrations, data structures and how changes in one system affect others.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence or equivalent tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience on one or more ERP implementations or replacements, ideally from the business or requirements side.
  • Experience supporting financial reporting and dashboards with BI tools such as Power BI.
  • Experience querying data with SQL or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with internal controls, SOX or audit requirements as they relate to system changes.
  • Experience defining, testing and refining solutions in Salesforce, including basic Salesforce administration.
  • Product Owner certification (CSPO or PSPO) or Business Analysis certification (CBAP or CCBA).

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Finance and Accounting leadership to define and communicate a systems, reports and dashboards roadmap aligned with business goals.
  • Turn business opportunities and pain points into initiatives that balance near-term needs and longer-term objectives.
  • Gather and document requirements through interviews, workshops and direct observation.
  • Map current- and future-state business processes and identify gaps, inefficiencies, control risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Write requirements, business rules and data mappings that developers and testers can use.
  • Own and prioritize the Finance and Accounting backlog based on business value, risk, effort and technical feasibility; write user stories and acceptance criteria and keep the backlog ready for sprint planning.
  • Plan and coordinate user acceptance testing with business users before releases.
  • Analyze and validate data to support requirements, troubleshoot issues and quantify business impact.
  • Own the Finance and Accounting reports and dashboards backlog, ensuring reports are accurate, trusted and aligned with business decisions; consolidate or retire redundant reports.
  • Assess technical architecture, data, risks and dependencies, and weigh configuration, customization, integration and process-change trade-offs.
  • Work with internal and external teams and participate in sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives.
  • Present good/better/best options to Finance and Accounting, explaining cost, effort, risk, value and technical constraints in business terms.
  • Build relationships with business users and leadership and communicate updates, progress and priorities clearly.
  • Represent Finance and Accounting in the ERP replacement, including requirements definition, vendor evaluation, fit-gap analysis, data migration and reconciliation, testing, cutover planning and change management.
  • Help simplify processes and reporting during the ERP transition rather than carry forward workarounds.
  • Monitor process and system performance, identify opportunities for improvement and automation, and refine delivered solutions based on user feedback.
