Product Operations Engineer

Anduril•Irvine, CA

About The Position

The Product Operations Engineer supports Anduril’s Air Defense and Counter-Intrusion business lines, with the deployed Sentry platform as the primary product focus. The role develops the systems, queries, and processes that help teams observe, maintain, and improve the Sentry fleet after deployment. It requires deep product understanding and collaboration with product engineering, deployment operations, logistics, and sustainment to turn field experience into actionable product improvements. The engineer designs and improves root cause corrective action (RCCA) processes, applies failure reporting, analysis, and corrective action (FRACAS) practices, and builds uptime reporting and observability tooling to measure customer capability availability. The role also owns and improves the Sentry knowledge base and self-service resources used by field operations teams. It leads iterative design cycles across operations and engineering, helping guide improvements to current and next-generation hardware and software.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in product operations, technical support, site reliability, or a comparable technical operations role supporting deployed hardware and software systems, with demonstrated progression in scope and ownership.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or another relevant technical field, or equivalent hands-on technical experience such as military, industrial, or field support.
  • Technical depth in robotics, mechatronics, or complex electromechanical systems, with ability to reason across hardware, software, and networking boundaries.
  • Demonstrated experience driving RCCA to closure on complex systems, including failure capture, classification, and verification of resolution.
  • Experience leading iterative design or improvement cycles across multiple engineering and operations teams, from problem statement through implementation.
  • Proficiency developing monitoring queries, dashboards, and alerting configurations using observability platforms such as Datadog, Grafana, or similar tools.
  • Experience validating and verifying software changes on distributed or fielded systems, including rollout, verification, and rollback considerations.
  • Scripting and automation skills, such as Python or Bash, and a track record of building tools that improve operational efficiency.
  • Fluency with development and issue-tracking tools such as Git and Jira.
  • Ability to author clear, thorough technical documentation, including runbooks, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to coordinate technical and non-technical efforts across product, engineering, deployment, and sustainment functions, including across multiple programs or customers at once.
  • Ability to work independently, identify what needs to be built, and deliver without close direction.
  • Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior military or government agency exposure or experience.
  • Familiarity with reliability and quality methodologies such as FRACAS, FMEA, or equivalent structured failure analysis practices.
  • Experience with Linux system administration and command-line troubleshooting of electromechanical or networked systems.
  • Experience supporting autonomous sensor systems, counter-UAS systems, and/or complex robotics systems.
  • Experience building or owning a technical knowledge base, documentation system, or self-service support resources.
  • Exposure to Anduril’s Lattice OS or similar command-and-control software platforms.
  • Experience operating in limited-risk-tolerance production environments with on-call responsibilities.
  • Willingness to work non-standard hours and weekends when operational needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain deep technical understanding of the Sentry system, including hardware and software, and serve as its product operations subject matter expert across both business lines.
  • Partner with product engineering to design, deploy, and improve RCCA cycles for fielded Sentry towers, from failure capture through corrective-action deployment.
  • Translate fleet failure data, field feedback, and reliability trends into actionable product improvement signals for engineering.
  • Apply and mature FRACAS practices, including establishing how failures are classified, tracked, and closed.
  • Develop and deploy uptime reporting that measures and facilitates customer capability availability, translating telemetry into fleet health metrics for stakeholders.
  • Build and improve observability tooling in partnership with hardware and software engineering, keeping pace with new Sentry variants and site deployments.
  • Own, democratize, and continuously improve the Sentry knowledge base for field operations functions.
  • Expand self-service resources, including runbooks, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides for field and deployment teams.
  • Lead iterative design cycles across product operations, engineering, and deployment functions, aligning stakeholders on changes and carrying them through implementation.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, described as comprehensive and competitive and available at little to no cost to employees.
