About The Position

Piq Energy is seeking a Product Manager to own products end-to-end, from understanding customer needs through development, rollout, and iteration. This role involves working closely with product-minded software engineers and power systems engineers to build an agentic grid planning and interconnection platform for developers and utilities. The position requires someone who can navigate ambiguity, make sound technical judgments, and ensure useful products are delivered quickly to both internal and external users. The Product Manager will be hands-on, leading discovery calls, sketching workflows, contributing to design, writing specifications, building prototypes, investigating agent failures, and collaborating with Engineering on improvements. A key aspect of the role is customer discovery, building relationships with power systems experts and non-technical users, and translating insights into reliable, understandable, and trustworthy products. While grid-planning expertise is preferred, the company is looking for someone who has independently led complex technical products, learns new domains quickly, and takes responsibility for outcomes, working closely with power systems engineers to develop domain knowledge.

Requirements

  • 5+ years building and shipping technical software products in product management, engineering, or a combination thereof, with a proven track record of independently owning products from discovery through launch and iteration.
  • A bias toward action: ability to identify a valuable first version, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and learn from shipping while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Experience building with LLMs or agents, with a practical understanding of their capabilities, failure modes, and evaluation methods for reliable task completion. Daily use of AI tools and awareness of their evolution.
  • Strong customer discovery skills: ability to lead conversations with technical experts and their superiors, ask precise follow-up questions, and connect workflow details to business priorities.
  • Clear written and visual communication: ability to express product decisions through concise specs, mockups, prototypes, or evaluation cases, choosing the most effective format.
  • Judgment and independence to prioritize competing needs, resolve ambiguity with engineers, and take accountability for product outcomes.
  • Passion for grid planning and interconnection, and a demonstrated ability to become effective in an unfamiliar technical domain.

Nice To Haves

  • Domain expertise in grid planning, power systems, or interconnection, including experience with developer or utility study workflows.
  • Experience shipping agentic products used by technical professionals to complete complex work.
  • Hands-on building ability: ability to write and debug code, work with APIs and data, and use AI development tools to create prototypes or scoped product improvements.
  • Experience building evaluation datasets, inspecting agent traces, or turning expert feedback into repeatable quality tests.
  • Early-stage startup experience working closely with engineers and customers to take products from an initial idea to sustained use.

Responsibilities

  • Own Discovery: Lead customer conversations, understand how power systems experts and project developers work, observe real tasks, test assumptions, and translate findings into specific product decisions.
  • Decide What Ships Next: Identify the most valuable problem to solve, scope a useful first release, make tradeoffs explicit, resolve ambiguity, and sequence work for rapid iteration. Balance immediate customer needs with broader product improvements and new initiatives.
  • Define the Work: Translate learnings into specifications, mockups, prototypes, or test cases needed by the team. Define expected behavior, acceptance criteria, and edge cases for the grid planning and interconnection platform.
  • Build and Ship: Use code and AI development tools to prototype workflows, test ideas, and ship improvements directly. Collaborate closely with Engineering on larger changes, influencing implementation, testing, and rollout. Remove blockers to ensure customer usability.
  • Own Agent Product Quality: Partner with power systems engineers to define evaluation cases based on expert judgment and customer tasks. Work with Engineering to test agent performance in study selection, setup, and result explanation. Set release criteria, investigate failures, and define when the product should seek clarification or expert review.
  • Close the Loop After Launch: Measure customer success and adoption. Review usage, feedback, and product behavior to identify improvements. Address confusing interactions and recurring failures alongside new capabilities, and communicate changes to customers and customer-facing teams.

Benefits

  • Equity
  • Work with a passionate, mission-driven team.
  • Collaborate in a global, remote-friendly environment.
  • Be part of the early team and contribute to shaping the company’s direction.
