Product Manager (GIS)

AssetWorks Inc•United States - TX, TX

About The Position

AssetWorks is hiring a Product Manager to own the space management and GIS product line across AiM and ReADY. The role connects university space inventories and surveys, CAD floor plans, GIS feature layers, and the Visualize map viewer built on Esri’s ArcGIS platform. The Product Manager will be the subject-matter authority for the end-to-end workflow and will teach it to engineering, services, sales, and customers. The product line is rebuilding the ReADY space survey and moving Visualize to a modern technology stack. The role will develop a repeatable CAD-to-GIS offering with a partner, address customer requests such as Revit support and map-based updates, and respond to changes in Esri indoor GIS products. The Product Manager will set the roadmap and guide delivery. This position owns product strategy, discovery, prioritization, requirements, backlog, release scope, and success metrics. It also establishes technical direction with engineering, develops internal enablement and customer-fit criteria, manages partner and Esri relationships, supports sales and RFP work, and creates a customer council. The role uses AI tools in product work and helps shape the company’s perspective on natural-language and agentic map exploration for space management.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years owning software outcomes as a product manager, solutions engineer, or campus space/GIS practitioner who has led feature delivery or platform migrations.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Esri ArcGIS Online and/or Enterprise, including publishing feature services, configuring floor-aware maps or comparable data models, and working with Esri authentication and licensing.
  • Direct exposure to higher-education space management, such as space inventory, space surveys, FICM coding, F&A/indirect cost recovery, or state facilities reporting, as a practitioner or vendor/consultant.
  • CAD/BIM literacy, including understanding AutoCAD floor plans, georeferencing, and what Revit or IFC adds; drafting is not required.
  • Comfort owning capabilities across an established Java platform and a modern JavaScript stack, and making integration behavior explicit.
  • Experience managing partner or vendor relationships and customer advisory groups, and communicating trade-offs to executives and technical details to engineers.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools in product work and a grounded understanding of where they help.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in geography, GIS, planning, architecture, computer science, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with an IWMS/CAFM space module such as AiM, Archibus, Planon, FM:Systems, FAMIS, TMA, or Nuvolo and its GIS or CAD integrations.
  • Participation in the campus GIS and facilities technology community, such as CFTA, Esri Education Summit, Esri UC, APPA, or SCUP.
  • SQL and Python literacy, including comfort reading a geoprocessing script or REST response.
  • Accessibility awareness for map-based interfaces, including ADA Title II or WCAG.
  • Exposure to indoor mapping and wayfinding platforms, occupancy analytics, or academic scheduling systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Space & GIS roadmap across AiM and ReADY, including strategy, prioritization, PRDs, backlog, release scope, and success metrics.
  • Conduct discovery with universities on space surveys, single-room updates, property-type surveys, and state reporting; translate findings into prioritized requirements.
  • Serve as the company’s Esri authority on feature services, hosted layers, ArcGIS Indoors data models and floor-aware maps, credits, user types, authentication, API keys, and licensing.
  • Productize the CAD-to-GIS workflow with the partner, including georeferencing configuration, the ArcGIS Pro toolbox, hosted feature-layer publishing, the drawing-preparation service, and the Revit/BIM path.
  • Set technical direction with engineering for caching, large-detail-layer performance, synchronization frequency, and Esri terms of use; explain and defend decisions to customers and Esri.
  • Build internal enablement materials so services can scope Visualize implementations and sales can qualify prospects independently.
  • Define customer-fit criteria for institutions ready for map-based space management and identify appropriate paths for those that are not yet ready.
  • Manage the GIS partner relationship and working relationship with Esri; support RFP responses and pre-sales discovery.
  • Establish a Space & GIS customer council to gather feedback and pressure-test the roadmap.
  • Use AI tools daily in product practice and shape the company’s perspective on natural-language and agentic map exploration in space management.
