Product Manager, Ambulatory Autonomous Coding

Ambience Healthcare•San Francisco, CA
•$169,200 - $235,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Ambience is hiring a Senior Product Manager to own its ambulatory professional coding product, initially focused on primary care. The role aims to help clinicians capture services accurately and with appropriate supporting documentation at the point of care, while reducing manual work for coding teams. The initial product scope includes CPT coding such as E/M levels, add-on codes, modifiers, and procedures, with a longer-term goal of enabling autonomous coding when accuracy, compliance, and customer workflows support it. The Product Manager owns the product end to end: learning current clinician and coding-team workflows, identifying priorities, setting the roadmap, delivering with Engineering and Clinical AI, and measuring customer outcomes. The role works closely with engineering, design, Clinical AI/ML, and go-to-market teams. It is based in San Francisco and requires working from the office three days per week.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of product management experience, including meaningful ownership of a product area from discovery through delivery and adoption.
  • Ability to learn complex domains rapidly and earn the trust of subject-matter experts.
  • Strong technical fluency, including comfort with AI/ML products, data, APIs, and complex integrations.
  • Experience building products for workflows with multiple users or stakeholders where reliability and attention to detail are important.
  • Strong written communication and product judgment, with the ability to make progress amid ambiguity.
  • Based in San Francisco and available to work in the office three days per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Healthcare, revenue-cycle, or professional coding experience, especially with CPT, E/M, modifiers, and Epic Professional Billing.
  • Experience with AI-assisted workflows, model evaluations, or products that automate work previously done by people.
  • Prior 0-to-1 product experience.
  • Experience with enterprise customers and regulated products.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the ambulatory coding roadmap, starting with primary care and expanding to additional code families and specialties based on customer needs and measurable value.
  • Understand how clinicians, coders, and revenue-cycle teams document, code, review, and bill encounters, and use those insights to guide product development.
  • Own the clinician and coding-team experience, including recommendations during visits, review, exception handling, and writeback into Epic's existing charge workflows.
  • Coordinate with ambulatory teams to ensure coding uses appropriate clinical context without adding work for clinicians.
  • Partner with Engineering, Clinical AI, and coding experts to improve coding accuracy and code-set coverage.
  • Establish evaluations for coding accuracy, encounter completeness, supporting documentation, and reliability of Epic writeback; identify and prioritize important error types.
  • Define when recommendations require human review and when encounters can be processed with less manual intervention, validating approaches with customer coding and compliance teams.
  • Create a repeatable approach for adding code families and specialties.
  • Drive adoption among clinicians and coding teams, identify workflow friction, and improve product fit.
  • Measure code coverage, complete-encounter accuracy, manual review and exception rates, and the share of encounters coded without routine human changes.
  • Work with Data, Value Attainment, and customer Finance and RCM teams to measure value from revenue capture, reduced coding work, and reduced rework, distinguishing modeled value from realized results.
  • Partner with GTM and Product Marketing to communicate product capabilities, areas of effectiveness, and expected customer value.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents.
  • 401(k) with company matching of up to 3% of base salary.
  • Remote-friendly culture and full equipment provisioning.
  • Parental leave.
  • Annual company-wide and team off-sites, regular team lunches, and all-hands gatherings, with travel, lodging, and meals covered.
  • Flexible time off with no annual cap.
  • Company-wide holidays and an annual holiday shutdown from December 24 through January 1.
