About The Position

The Product Manager serves as the strategic owner for a designated category of building materials, driving profitable growth through strong vendor partnerships, pricing strategy, and cross-functional collaboration. This role blends commercial strategy, technical expertise, and operational execution to optimize product performance, strengthen supplier relationships, and support Sales success. The Product Manager plays a critical leadership role in aligning sourcing, inventory, and product lifecycle decisions with regional market needs and overall company objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Marketing, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in product management, category management, sourcing, or wholesale distribution
  • Strong knowledge of building materials, construction supply chains, or related industries
  • Commercial acumen with proven negotiation experience with manufacturers or suppliers
  • Analytical mindset with proficiency in Excel, ERP systems, and business intelligence tools
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle management and merchandising principles
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on operational execution

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with building products (e.g., roofing, lumber, drywall, hardware) highly preferred
  • Certifications in product management, procurement, or Lean/Six Sigma (a plus)

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute category strategy aligned with company goals and regional market demand
  • Lead sourcing and supplier negotiations, including pricing, rebates, programs, and supply agreements
  • Build and maintain strong vendor partnerships to improve service levels and identify growth opportunities
  • Analyze market trends and conduct competitive benchmarking to inform product mix and pricing decisions
  • Monitor category performance including revenue, margin, inventory turns, and supply chain KPIs
  • Manage product lifecycle activities including new product launches, updates, and discontinuations
  • Support inventory optimization efforts, including forecasting, stocking strategies, and dead stock mitigation
  • Serve as the technical product expert for Sales and branch teams, advising on complex deals and high-value accounts
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Purchasing, Sales, Operations, and Marketing to ensure product availability and execution
  • Lead product onboarding processes including system setup, training materials, and promotional planning
  • Train and enable Sales teams on product positioning, competitive differentiation, and system solutions
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Product Specialists to ensure consistent best practices
