About The Position

Backcountry's services business, which includes ski and snowboard mounting and tuning, bike protection film, and mobile bike service, is a substantial and rapidly growing segment of the company, with significant expansion planned for 2027. As the Product Manager for Services and App, you will be responsible for the product experience that drives this growth, encompassing everything from initial customer discovery and booking to post-service follow-up. Additionally, you will manage the Backcountry mobile app, transforming it from a simple convenience feature into a significant revenue-generating channel. Success in this role within the first six to twelve months will be measured by services growth exceeding projections, a user-friendly and easily discoverable booking experience, and an app that fosters customer loyalty and repeat engagement. This is a lean team environment where you will have broad ownership, operate with agility, and make decisions with complete end-to-end accountability.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of product management experience.
  • Experience with a product tied to real-world operations (e.g., services, bookings, scheduling, appointments, fulfillment, or a marketplace with supply constraints).
  • Experience owning a consumer mobile app or a commerce product with a significant mobile presence, including familiarity with retention and engagement metrics and app release cycles.
  • Demonstrated revenue or conversion impact with measurable results.
  • Strong analytical and experimentation skills, with experience using GA4, Looker, SQL, or similar tools.
  • Ability to ship iteratively and maintain momentum through rapid release cycles.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders, including field and shop teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience using AI tools within product workflows (e.g., pulling live context, prototyping, automating repetitive tasks).
  • Experience scaling a services or attach revenue stream alongside a core product business.
  • Experience working with technicians, installers, or a mobile workforce.
  • Experience with mobile lifecycle messaging and push notification strategy.
  • Background in outdoor, snowsports, cycling, or powersports retail.

Responsibilities

  • Own the product vision, roadmap, and execution for the services business, covering discovery, scheduling, pricing, payment, status updates, and post-service follow-up.
  • Build the attach path to ensure customers purchasing skis, bikes, or boards are offered the appropriate service at the optimal moment across online, app, and in-store channels.
  • Address scheduling and capacity as product challenges, focusing on appointment availability, technician capacity, turnaround times, and customer communication when capacity is full.
  • Collaborate with shop teams, technicians, and mobile service operations to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of services sold online.
  • Support the expansion of services into new categories, markets, and delivery models by creating scalable experiences rather than one-off solutions.
  • Define the services funnel, establish key metrics, and identify the drivers of growth.
  • Own the app roadmap post-launch, focusing on retention, engagement, app-exclusive features, notifications, lifecycle messaging, and release cadence.
  • Grow the app from a customer convenience tool into a revenue-driving channel.
  • Work with the app platform partner and engineering teams to ensure rapid, high-quality releases that maintain positive store review ratings.
  • Define success metrics for all initiatives, implement proper instrumentation, and leverage experimentation and data to prioritize future development.
  • Undertake additional high-impact product work as company priorities evolve.
  • Partner with engineering, design, merchandising, marketing, analytics, retail, and operations teams to translate business objectives into shipped products.
