About The Position

Global Transaction Banking (GTB) is the payments and transaction engine of Scotiabank, supporting Small Business, Commercial, and Corporate clients with treasury management solutions and a best-in-class service model. As businesses evolve their digital capabilities and operating models, their payment needs are also changing. GTB offers a comprehensive suite of innovative banking solutions to help clients achieve operational efficiencies, streamline payments, improve working capital, and mitigate financial risk. This position contributes to the profitability and revenue growth of the Global Business Payments portfolio by developing and maintaining commercial card products and initiatives to maximize market share and customer growth. The Product Manager is responsible for managing the ongoing requirements of the Bank's Commercial card offering and making recommendations for product evolution. This includes ensuring products are competitively positioned throughout their lifecycle, maximizing profitability, utilizing appropriate suppliers, and meeting customer needs. The role involves working independently with direction from a Senior Product Manager, and collaboratively with interdivisional product and sales groups, as well as operational organizations (Legal Counsel, Risk and Compliance, AML, Call Centre, Accounting, Systems, Finance, Credit Solutions, Customer Service, etc.). The manager must also be comfortable managing external vendors like VISA and TSYS.

Requirements

  • Self-starter possessing confidence and initiative; able to cope with changing and evolving priorities while identifying new opportunities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and strategic negotiating skills.
  • Knowledge of payments, industry trends and practices, innovative digital platforms, policies and procedures.
  • Product management expertise to enable thorough understanding of products/services.
  • Working knowledge of Credit/Debit Retail or Commercial Cards, Visa and B2B payments.
  • University Degree in business, economics, or technology (MBA an asset).
  • Working knowledge of Business Insight tools (i.e. Power BI, Excel etc).
  • 3+ years of Product Management experience.

  • Knowledge of the Bank's application systems and their relationships within the Bank is an asset.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment is an asset.
  • Prior relevant experience in either product management, Legal, and Risk & Compliance would be a highly desirable asset.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a suite of commercial card products to drive growth in revenues and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with AML/Risk/Compliance, Legal, Technology, and Sales teams to understand and articulate the product vision, including customer impacts, business/stakeholder value, system dependencies, and technological processes.
  • Ensure products are performing as expected and resolve issues in a timely manner, providing updates to partners and escalating to management as required.
  • Own the end-to-end process map and ensure accountable stakeholders operate according to agreed responsibilities.
  • Determine where product gaps may exist with respect to customer needs, competitive offerings, and trends.
  • Understand the voice of the customer and front-line staff to improve product quality.
  • Oversee product marketing and communications for customers and staff.
  • Manage vendor partnership relationships to support the product portfolio.
  • Provide ad hoc support and subject matter expertise to partners as required.
  • Develop profit plan projections by assisting in the design of financial analytical models, assessing customer needs and product demand, gathering research for market segments, assisting in the development of channel pricing strategies, developing and analyzing data for business objectives, and assisting with prework and research for new products.
  • Determine key product opportunities and issues.
  • Provide technical expertise to sales staff regarding high potential/complex/customized solicitations for large clients.
  • Accompany sales officers on customer/prospect calls as required to provide product expertise.
  • Assist with the development of customized/technical product sections of sales proposals.
  • Work with pricing and operations teams to drive revenues and improve efficiencies.
  • Respond to/assist with RFP inquiries and liaise with third-party vendors.
  • Oversee and process monthly invoices.
  • Collaborate with Risk and IS&C teams to ensure all commercial card vendor contracts are completed and up to date.
  • Ensure product materials (sales aids, brochures, website content, forms, User’s Guides) are current and effective.
  • Arrange for production of materials and coordinate distribution.
  • Conduct/participate in product informational seminars.
  • Lead the delivery of approved projects by overseeing the design and implementation of new products or enhancements.
  • Perform in an Agile project setting for digital products, and waterfall as required.
  • Oversee/prepare business cases from concept to executive approval.
  • Engage and influence stakeholders strategically to manage prioritization and change delivery.
  • Identify and recommend solutions to meet the specific needs of major customers.
  • Write detailed requirements and coordinate development activities for customization/tailoring of existing products.
  • Ensure requirements are agreed upon by partners and driven by customer feedback and data.
  • Prepare timely status updates, reports, and presentations.
  • Keep projects moving with a sense of urgency by actively participating in the project team, sprint reviews, and driving milestones.
  • Operate with curiosity to challenge the status quo and improve the product P&L.
  • Define requirements for advertising and promotional materials, including campaigns, brochures, newsletters, bulletins, circulars, statement inserts, and online messages.
