About The Position

This opportunity within Digital Media is for you. This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines. Radio-Canada focuses on more than simply distributing content. We craft digital experiences enjoyed by millions of Canadians every day (ICI TOU.TV, Radio-Canada OHdio, news apps). In a fast-changing media ecosystem, data is our compass. To customize our audience experience, optimize our content and guide us in our decision-making and innovations, we’re transforming our infrastructure to take advantage of a modern, decentralized architecture. You can play a central role in this major technology shift. Our data ecosystem centralizes and processes huge volumes of data originating from all our digital platforms. As Product Manager, Data Lake, in co-operation with the Solutions Architect, you’ll drive the future of the data lake in the Radio-Canada data ecosystem by ensuring that solutions are available, secure, interoperable and economically effective (FinOps). The aim is to enable data experts to create data products and manage them smoothly.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing data products using Azure and Databricks (Delta Lake, notebooks and workflows).
  • Good understanding of privacy guidelines and concerns in digital media.
  • Genuine interest in audience data management and passion for product development.
  • Proven ability to support teams in adopting new workflows as well as help alleviate resistance and facilitate training.
  • Familiarity with Data Mesh principles to promote business field autonomy and data decentralization.
  • Understanding the issues specific to the media environment (streaming data, session lifecycles, multiplatform identifiers and engagement metrics).
  • Advanced proficiency with the Atlassian suite (JIRA and Confluence).
  • Ability to act as an expert for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Results-oriented approach.
  • Genuine interest in audience data management and passion for product development.
  • Ability to rally multidisciplinary teams around a common vision.
  • Being comfortable in an ever-changing environment oriented toward continuous improvement.
  • Track record in a Scrum or Kanban team with strong decision-making skills for priorities (value/effort compromises).
  • Bilingualism (French and English) and outstanding aptitude for explaining concepts clearly and simply would be a major asset when working with our national partners.
  • Proven ability to communicate trade-offs and benefits in support of decision-making.
  • Commitment to reflecting the CBC community and a diverse, contemporary Canada.

  • Experience in data collection and/or internal management platforms, and comfortable with technical environments.

Responsibilities

  • Be the custodian of the data lake’s future in line with data trends and appetites. For example, support needs in terms of customization, audience analytics and media performance metrics and prep data for generative AI models.
  • Prioritize developments in JIRA by translating business needs (marketing, newsrooms and programming) into technical user stories.
  • Foster a visibility culture for cloud costs. Facilitate initiatives to optimize the use of Azure and Databricks (cost monitoring, alerts and cluster efficiency).
  • Partner with the data science teams to make sure that the architecture supports MLOps lifecycles and generates the essential high-quality data needed to train models.
  • Support data experts in delivering robust, resilient data pipelines.
  • In co-operation with data governance experts, ensure that data is reliable, secure and compliant (privacy and consent) in a public broadcasting context.
  • Promote a data-driven culture by simplifying product concepts, encouraging autonomy and supporting users as they adopt new tools.
