Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Requirements

  • MBA Required and BS Degree, preferably in an Engineering or Technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in combination of manufacturing, engineering AND business management or product line management
  • Track record of launching new products
  • Experience of leading multi-functional teams
  • Work experience in a commercial function

  • Materials Science and Engineering, Applied Science, or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Optical Communications and/or Near Packaged Optics or Co-Packaged Optics

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes a product line strategy that supports the achievement of desired new products for AWS including sales, growth and profitability for new products and materials related to Near Packaged Optics and adjacencies
  • Develops, a cross-functional business team consisting of functional leads from the PCS business unit not limited to Development, Division Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing, Finance
  • Works to develop value propositions that enable design and subsequent supply of NPO for AWS
  • Improve margins for Corning’s and enable new/enhanced selling opportunities with customers including a product mix from the Optical Communications business
  • Manage the introduction of new products and any other ancillary semiconductor product applications and complimentary products within the value chain
  • Manage the day to day demand and supply issues, working towards optimal profitability and customer satisfaction
  • Support building a profitable business case
  • Direct interaction and management of customer product expectations and introduction sampling and prototype needs
  • Manage and provide guidance on finding the optimal solution (balancing the needs of Corning and the customer) to develop the business case for new products related to performance (i.e., specs, attributes, services), quality, share growth, customer needs (contract management)
  • Work with cross-functional leads resolving any and all product needs and issues including ramp/volume requirements, pricing, performance, overall quality and delivery performance
  • Determine the appropriate value proposition and value monetization and capture of prototype or NRE projects including heavy involvement in pricing and profitability decisions
  • Provide guidance on monthly forecasting and monitor performance to revenue & profitability plan
  • Optimizes inventory management in conjunction with commercial operations, Supply Chain and finance related to the product line by coordinating information flow, as needed, between Forecasting, Sales, Manufacturing, and other parties as required
  • Contributes and participates in product line and local manufacturing S&OP discussions
  • May get involved in supply chain disruption issues as well as any project delays to influence decisions on Development/Manufacturing prioritization
