About The Position

The Product Line Leader (PLL) – Excitation & Generator is a critical member of the OFS Technical Training Delivery Team. This role owns the end-to-end training delivery execution for the Electrical-Excitation and Generator product lines — two of the highest-complexity, highest-volume disciplines in the OFS Training portfolio. The PLL ensures that internal Field Engineers and external Customers receive world-class, technically accurate, and safely delivered training across a portfolio that spans entry-level through advanced specialist programs. This is not a role for someone who manages from a distance. The PLL is hands-on, technically credible, and deeply embedded in the execution rhythm of training delivery.

Requirements

  • For roles based in the USA: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field; OR equivalent hands-on experience in lieu of a degree (including military technical training in power generation, electrical systems, or related disciplines)
  • Minimum 7 years of experience as a GE Excitation Field Engineer, Generator Specialist, or in an equivalent industry role involving excitation systems, generator operation and maintenance, or high-voltage electrical systems in a power generation environment
  • For roles outside of the USA: Substantive technical experience in Excitation, Generator, or equivalent electrical power generation disciplines, at a level comparable to a Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or technical field
  • Depth of experience should reflect the ability to independently execute, lead, and develop others in complex excitation and generator training environments — a minimum number of years is not specified per applicable local requirements
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; able to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs, manage competing priorities, and hold a standard under pressure
  • Established project management habits; follows through, tracks issues, closes loops
  • Comfortable making GO / NO-GO decisions with incomplete information, and owning those decisions
  • Builds trust across instructor teams, TDMs, logistics, and field stakeholders
  • Can influence without authority and navigate a matrixed environment
  • Proactively identifies problems before they become delivery failures

Nice To Haves

  • Military candidates with equivalent experience in electrical power systems, propulsion, or generation equipment are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Direct experience as a GE Field Engineer, Excitation Specialist, or Generator Specialist
  • Hands-on background with one or more of the following: EX2100/EX2100e, LS2100/LS2100e, ECS, generator O&M, Generator Specialist Training program (I-GEN10701), Pulsar Test, or related electrical/excitation disciplines
  • Familiarity with ControlST, Kahuna, and GE field tools
  • Genuine commitment to developing people — not just managing logistics
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical content into effective learning experiences
  • Experience delivering or supporting technical training, formal or informal

Responsibilities

  • Own all training delivery activities for the Excitation and Generator product lines, including both internal (Field Engineer) and customer-facing programs
  • Serve as the accountable leader for delivery execution, quality, and outcomes across a complex portfolio — including open enrollment, site-specific, distance learning, and OJT courses
  • Maintain and evolve the training strategy for Excitation and Generator disciplines, influencing course content direction, sequencing, and delivery formats in partnership with content owners
  • Manage course outlines and coordinate PLL review cycles to ensure course content remains current, technically accurate, and aligned with product evolution
  • Own instructor qualification, approval, and ongoing development for all assigned Excitation and Generator courses
  • Maintain instructor qualification records in Kahuna; verify currency before any assignment is made
  • Assign qualified instructors to scheduled courses; no instructor delivers without PLL-confirmed qualification
  • Execute and oversee the Instructor Readiness and Development Program (IRDP) for all instructors within the product line
  • Review, approve, and track instructor timecards; resolve exceptions within one business day
  • Coach instructors on delivery quality, student engagement, and technical accuracy
  • Own the GO / NO-GO decision for every class within the Excitation and Generator portfolio
  • Evaluate readiness across all categories prior to delivery: instructor, content, student, logistics, equipment, and travel
  • Escalate or resolve blockers proactively — before they reach the classroom
  • Enforce hard stops (safety risk, no qualified instructor, inability to execute hands-on components) without exception
  • Serve as the primary technical training interface for Excitation and Generator product line stakeholders
  • Partner with TDMs to align on student readiness, prerequisite verification, and enrollment accuracy
  • Coordinate with Logistics on scheduling, class cancellations, and rescheduling decisions
  • Interface with Project Managers to confirm project numbers and financial readiness prior to execution
  • Engage with field leadership and product specialists to stay current on technology updates, field execution challenges, and training gaps
  • Bring direct field or technical expertise in excitation systems (EX2000, EX2100, EX2100e, LS2100, LS2100e, ECS, IED, protection systems) and/or generator systems (air/hydrogen cooled, Generator Specialist program, Pulsar Test, diagnostic tools such as AMODIS®, PAMOS®)
  • Apply technical knowledge to assess instructor quality, identify content gaps, and recommend course improvements
  • Evaluate new or complex training requests and determine appropriate pathway: standard delivery vs. custom development
  • Manage a team of instructors (full-time and borrowed) within the Excitation and Generator product lines
  • Support the development of instructor pipeline candidates drawn from the field; onboard borrowed instructors into the formal program
  • Identify development opportunities, provide feedback, and hold instructors accountable to delivery standards
  • May lead cross-functional or improvement-focused projects with moderate complexity
