About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring customers have continual access to innovation. The Product Lifecycle Electrical Engineer will join a diverse team of engineers and principals, collaborating with various specialists and managers to deliver high standards of safety and security while providing infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost. This role is part of the Electrical Products and Services Team within AWS's Data Center Engineering, focusing on the design and continuous innovation of products for rapidly expanding data centers. The team designs and develops resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution products and systems to achieve world-class uptime, driving continuous advancements and communicating technical direction to senior leadership. Amazon offers a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment where innovative ideas are encouraged and supported, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration with internal and external groups, including service providers, manufacturers, vendors, inspectors, testing labs, and contractors. The role involves global presence with up to 30% travel, including potential international travel for leading projects and developing engineering information packages.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of commissioning experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
  • Experience in either: design of low voltage power distribution products, such as busduct and tap-off boxes, UL891 switchgear or IEC equivalents, RPP/PDU, or power whips or technical design or operational and commissioning support for data centers or similar mission critical environments.
  • Low Voltage Switchgear and/or Data Center or mission critical construction and operation experience

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design issue resolutions and improvement.
  • Support new product design, qualification, and launch, with a focus on low voltage power distribution to supply critical rack loads.
  • Be the global escalation point for issues and improvements in the at-scale product fleet spanning hundreds of existing and new data centers.
  • Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to optimize cost and component supply chain resilience.
  • Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
  • Validate design through first-of-kind deployments, and prepare field teams for at-scale deployment and operation.
  • Be the focal point to deliver for Data Center field and operations priorities via standard designs and global electrical manufacturers and engineering firms.
  • Work with product design, field engineering, and commissioning teams to validate product performance and ensure the right products meet customer needs and are successful.
  • Support manufacturing activities for new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
  • Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
