Product Engineer

WorkhelixSan Francisco, CA
$115,000 - $150,000

About The Position

Workhelix is a tech-enabled services company focused on helping organizations maximize their AI investments. We provide answers to critical questions about the business value of AI, including identifying top opportunities, measuring ROI, and accelerating benefits. Our approach combines expertise in economics, AI, and data science, utilizing a unique task-scoring method for AI opportunities and a ROI monitoring suite based on Nobel Prize-winning economics. We are supported by renowned AI and Economics thinkers. We maintain a culture built on five key principles. This role is for a Product Engineer to help scale the company reliably as it grows. The goal is to ensure the team's ability to build great new features is not compromised by growth. This role focuses on strengthening issue detection and resolution, and building infrastructure to maintain quality at scale. The engineer will work across a FastAPI (Python) / Postgres / React stack, involved in everything from schema design to UI behavior to CI pipelines. It's a high-trust, high-autonomy role for someone seeking early career ownership.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional full-stack engineering experience
  • Comfort with Python and React strongly preferred, but open to strong candidates from other OOP backgrounds
  • Real SQL fluency, including understanding schema design, and reasoning about ingestion to transformation to output pipelines, and the difference between a clean and a messy data model
  • A systems mindset; naturally zooming out and noticing when something upstream or downstream of your own work is drifting out of sync
  • A bias toward pragmatic delivery: scoping before diving in, breaking work into shippable increments, shipping at the pace a fast-moving company requires without over-engineering
  • Genuine product and user judgment; caring about the user experience and questioning tickets that look wrong rather than building them as written
  • Low ego, high standards; caring more about the quality of the outcome than who gets credit, and taking feedback in review without getting defensive
  • Strong collaborative instincts and async communication; looping people in early, and writing clearly in Slack, PRs, and EOD updates
  • Genuine intellectual curiosity; being energized by shifting priorities and going deep on problems

Responsibilities

  • Triage and resolve incoming customer bugs across single-tenant staging and production environments
  • Work alongside the team to design and build new features and capabilities on our main product
  • Design and build automated test suites that scale across customer environments without becoming their own maintenance burden
  • Work across the full stack (Python/FastAPI backend, Postgres, React frontend) to understand and fix issues at their root cause, not just their symptom

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package and benefits
  • Chance to learn and collaborate with some of the most famous researchers in the AI and digital economy space: Andrew Ng, Erik Brynjolfsson, Andy McAfee, and Daniel Rock.
  • The unique opportunity to help build a company, culture, and products from the ground up with a team that values healthy working practices.
  • A high-trust, high-autonomy work environment.
