Product Engineer

Avallon•New York, NY
•$165,000 - $270,000•Onsite

About The Position

Avallon is building AI agents to automate the insurance claims lifecycle, from intake to settlement. The company is growing rapidly and aims to become the automation layer for the insurance industry. The Product Engineer will build Avallon's platform for insurance teams, identifying what the platform needs next and turning recurring customer and deployment challenges into product capabilities. Working closely with forward-deployed engineers, customers, design, and product strategy, the engineer will help determine what to build and why, then create solutions that deliver value now and can be extended over time. The role includes building claimant-facing chat interfaces and branded portals for carrier customers, as well as clear, auditable claim context and review and approval experiences that help teams oversee agent work and expand automation confidently. The engineer will own features end to end—from data model and backend through interface—and monitor and improve their performance in production using Datadog RUM. This is an in-person role in New York.

  • Experience building and operating LLM- or agent-powered products in production, including understanding reliability challenges at scale.
  • Ability to explain the judgment behind difficult technical or product decisions and take responsibility for outcomes after launch.
  • Ability to work closely with design and product strategy, form opinions about what to build, and explain those opinions clearly.
  • Willingness to work in person in New York.
