Product Engineer, Product Platform (Frontend)

ReplitFoster City, CA
$200,000 - $300,000Onsite

About The Position

Replit is seeking a Product Engineer to focus on the frontend platform, which serves as the architectural and platform layer behind every core product surface. This role is highly leveraged and horizontal, offering exposure across the entire engineering organization. The team is small, collaborative, and values clear thinking and curiosity. The primary goal is to ensure product teams can ship quickly and reliably on the foundations built by this role. The work involves ensuring the core frontend architecture is sound, consistent, and easy to build on, that the API and data layer is reliable and ergonomic, that user-facing surfaces are fast and well-instrumented with safe testing infrastructure, and that the codebase is easy to navigate, change, and extend, even for AI coding agents. The engineer will partner with engineering, product, design, DevEx, and Design Engineering teams to plan, ship, and operate frontend foundations for high-traffic, latency-sensitive workloads.

Requirements

  • Experience shipping and operating user-facing software in production.
  • Designed frontend architecture that other teams build on (frameworks, state, routing, SSR/CSR, migrations).
  • Built and operated an API/data layer (REST/GraphQL, error handling, caching).
  • Measured and improved client performance with instrumentation and monitoring.
  • Made and explained architecture tradeoffs across UX, correctness, delivery speed, and maintainability.
  • Comfortable in modern web stacks (TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js).

Nice To Haves

  • If you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Design platform APIs and shared primitives with clear contracts, documentation, and upgrade paths for adoption by other teams.
  • Profile and instrument real user journeys, then implement changes to improve key metrics.
  • Roll out cross-cutting changes safely using codemods, migration paths, and staged rollouts.
  • Set technical direction in design and architecture reviews, documenting decisions and operational expectations.
  • Work directly with product teams to identify friction points and translate them into reusable platform improvements.
