Product Engineer, Labs

Mecka•New York, NY

About The Position

Mecka AI is building the data infrastructure layer for robotics and embodied AI. We design and operate global systems for data capture, data labeling, and hardware-enabled workflows used by leading AI labs and robotics companies to train and validate humanoid and embodied AI systems. We work closely with frontier robotics teams to bridge real-world data, simulation, learning-based systems, and deployed hardware. As Product Engineer, Labs, you'll build 0-to-1 products for Mecka's Labs team, launching new verticals across robotics, manufacturing, science, reinforcement learning environments and other technical domains. Work directly with users and product colleagues to understand a problem, ship an initial solution and improve it through use. This is a generalist engineering role across frontend, backend and data. You'll learn unfamiliar domains, make practical product decisions and own implementation through production, investigating how users work and what they need.

Requirements

  • You bring 4+ years of engineering experience and have shipped and maintained working products across the frontend, backend and database, with responsibility beyond an initial demonstration.
  • You can build clear, interactive web applications and handle loading states, errors and complex user input thoughtfully.
  • You can design APIs and data models, integrate external systems and debug processing or storage problems.
  • You can turn an ambiguous request into a useful first release, work closely with users and revise your approach as evidence changes.
  • You learn unfamiliar workflows quickly, investigate problems independently and communicate clearly with technical and domain experts.

Nice To Haves

  • Data-intensive applications, media or document processing, or workflows involving human review.
  • Practical experience building AI-enabled products and evaluating their behavior in use.
  • Early-stage product development, including making and revisiting scope decisions with a small team.

Responsibilities

  • Build end-to-end workflows: Develop user interfaces, services, APIs and data models.
  • Take a product from an early prototype through deployment and ongoing use.
  • Work directly with users: Observe how people work, identify bottlenecks and turn feedback into clear requirements.
  • Make complex tasks easier without losing information users depend on.
  • Connect tools and data: Build integrations, imports and exports across unfamiliar systems.
  • Handle inconsistent inputs, validation errors and access boundaries clearly.
  • Develop reusable components: Identify common needs across products and build components that are straightforward to maintain.
  • Balance reuse against the needs of the current problem.
  • Own reliability: Test, deploy, monitor and support what you ship.
  • Investigate failures across the stack and improve performance and usability based on production evidence.
  • Iterate with product judgment: Scope useful releases, instrument important workflows and assess whether changes help users.
  • Communicate technical tradeoffs and collaborate with domain specialists.
