About The Position

Provides engineering support for all aspects of assigned product line to ensure functionality, quality, cost, and attainment to schedule. This role involves selecting and designing fixtures, workholding, and tooling with a focus on flexibility, quality, cost, and manufacturing ease. The engineer will utilize computer-assisted design software (CREO) and company business systems (SAP) for engineering tasks, interface with internal teams and customers to determine needs and provide manufacturing solutions, and support the quoting process with cost estimates for tooling and machining. Responsibilities include creating shop packs, providing manufacturing support, developing procedures, reviewing drawings for manufacturability, evaluating cost improvements, analyzing design risks, implementing designs within schedule and budget, specifying and procuring materials, and assisting team members with related tasks. The role also requires providing manufacturing engineering assistance, supporting business and quality systems (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, AS9100), and identifying and communicating implementation or resource issues.

Requirements

CAD experience required.
Goal-oriented team player.
Demonstrated self-starter able to work with others as well as carry out written and verbal instructions.
Ability & desire to interact directly with customers.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
5-7 year(s) related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

Basic understanding of cylindrical & bevel gears and workholding equipment is a plus.
Six Sigma or Lean Training Certification is a plus.
Work holding equipment design experience.
Gleason product line knowledge.
Project management skills.
Manufacturing background.
Exposure to Curvic® couplings.
Ability to assist in accurately quoting and managing projects.

Responsibilities

Selects and designs appropriate fixtures, workholding/tooling required for efficient machining of SGS product, with a focus on flexibility, quality, cost, and manufacturing ease.
Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software (CREO), Company business system (SAP) and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.
Interfaces with others in the organization and customers to jointly determine customer needs and provide appropriate manufacturing solutions.
Supports quoting process by providing cost estimates for tooling and machining including outsource operations.
Create shop packs, including routers, part prints, process sheets for all releases.
Provides support to manufacturing to ensure product is manufactured based on the intended functionality of the design.
Develops and maintains procedures and processes that support and protect core product technologies.
Reviews engineered drawings to ensure manufacturability and appropriate application of GD&T.
Evaluates, analyzes, and makes recommendations on products, designs, and cost improvements to improve the competitive position of the company.
Analyzes the risks of a new design or process and communicates results accordingly.
Implements the product design within the required schedule and budget parameters.
Assists in specifying and procuring materials needed for manufacturing.
Analyzes, evaluates and works with supply chain to coordinate the procurement of new materials to support manufacturing of products.
Assists other team members in quoting, sales order entry or any other related task to achieving the business unit’s objectives.
Identifies any problems with the implementation or available resources that may affect the schedule or budget and communicates such problems accordingly.
Provide Manufacturing Engineering assistance required by operations to accomplish the business unit’s goals.
Assist with the correct implementation and adherence of a business and quality system that supports ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and future AS9100 initiatives.
