About The Position

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. As a Product Development Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by assuming technical leadership on NPI (New Product Introduction) and NTI (New Technology Introduction) initiatives, developing and running simulations for Medium Voltage (MV) and High Voltage (HV) product designs, and creating CAD models and guiding design efforts across a broad range of applications and product portfolios in the electrical industry. You will support new product introductions in all stages of development from prototype development over feasibility demonstration to model validation and refinement. You will interface with cross-functional team members (marketing, manufacturing, supply chain, sales, technical service, quality, regulatory, etc.) to ensure successful program delivery. You will also generate intellectual property positions, including invention submissions, patents and 3M trade secrets, and lead technical interactions with corporate, group and division labs to identify new technologies, processes and materials to be applied to the Energy Markets, developing and commercializing products to efficiently, reliably and sustainably deliver energy to customers around the world.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or science (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
• Three (3) years of product development, engineering or technical service in a private, public, government or military environment
• Three (3) years of practical experience with CAD drawings and software
• Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status)
• All US-based 3M full time employees will need to sign an employee agreement as a condition of employment with 3M. This agreement lays out key terms on using 3M Confidential Information and Trade Secrets. It also has provisions discussing conflicts of interest and how inventions are assigned.
• Employees that are Job Grade 7 or equivalent and above may also have obligations to not compete against 3M or solicit its employees or customers, both during their employment, and for a period after they leave 3M.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
• Experience with mechanical, electrical and thermal modelling
• Experience with multi-physics modeling
• Hands-on experience with industry standard CAD and modelling software suites
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention and customer first mindset
• Interest in practical work, prototyping, simulating, testing, and validation of designs
• Eagerness to learn and willingness to start on new topics
