About The Position

Oversee the Product Development department. This role involves managing various aspects of the department, including pattern making, frame drawing, frame design, frame build for new products, and upholstering of new products. The Product Development Manager will provide collaborative input on new and existing furniture pieces, working closely with Plant leadership to ensure all samples and existing furniture pieces meet the highest quality, style, and requirements. The position also involves recommending and implementing improvements within the PD area, accurately managing employee time records, assessing product costs with a focus on reduction opportunities, and guiding samples and new products through the entire process from concept to finish. Ensuring the accuracy of current product patterns and correcting any design issues immediately is also a key responsibility. Other duties may be assigned by the Manager.

Requirements

  • 10 Years’ experience in furniture upholstery, pattern making and general furniture upholstery experience.
  • 5 years’ experience in supervision.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have good vision.
  • Must be able to lead a team with respect and dignity. Must lead by example.
  • Must understand the lean and 5s concepts.
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must have excellent computer skills.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to work safely with a variety of tools and supplies.
  • Must have excellent math skills.
  • Must be a Team Player with a positive attitude.
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must have your own reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to sit/stand/walk for a minimum of 8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to work Weekends and Overtime.
  • Must be reliable.
  • Must have strong skills in the following areas: Reading (English), Comprehending (English), Speaking, Writing, Communication
  • Must be able to wear required PPE of Safety Glasses and close-toe/close-heel shoes when required.
  • Must be able to adhere to all Safety policies and procedures to prevent injuries to yourself and others.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in PD Management is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or 3+ years related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the department parts such as pattern making, frame drawing, frame design, frame build for new products, upholstering of new products
  • Providing collaborative input on new and existing furniture pieces.
  • Working with Plant leadership to ensure all samples and existing furniture pieces meet quality, style, and requirements of the highest quality.
  • Recommends and implements improvements need in the PD area.
  • Correctly records, corrects and approves the PD area employees’ time by the required deadlines.
  • Assess product cost while looking for cost reduction opportunities.
  • Works to move samples and new products thru the process from concept to finish.
  • Ensures current product patterns are correct and if not, corrects any design issues immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager
