We are seeking a motivated and execution-focused IT Product Owner to help deliver high-impact technology solutions that address some of the most complex and meaningful challenges in our healthcare system. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on emerging technologies in a fast-moving, mission-driven environment—where rapid, thoughtful delivery directly supports better patient care and operational excellence. You will partner closely with program leadership, engineering teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to turn ambitious ideas into real, measurable outcomes.

In this role, you will serve as the critical link between strategy and execution. Working from priorities set by senior leaders, you will use your deep understanding of the clinical, regulatory, compliance, and technical considerations required to develop healthcare applications. You will translate these into clear user stories, structured backlogs, and actionable delivery plans—then lead the day-to-day execution using agile practices. Success in this role requires balancing speed with rigor: driving rapid delivery while ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, and built to meet the demands of a highly regulated healthcare environment.

The Health IT department at UCSF Health is dedicated to advancing healthcare delivery through innovative technology solutions. Our Health AI team focuses on integrating cutting-edge AI applications into clinical practice, supporting the development of tools that enhance patient care, streamline operations, and enable data-driven decision-making across the health system.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
• 5+ years of experience in product development
• 5+ years of project management experience using Agile and Hybrid methodologies
• 2+ years of experience in the healthcare-related industry
• Advanced knowledge of product development concepts, practices, standards and processes.
• Proven ability to identify key issues critical to the organization's long-range success of a desired product or service.
• Proven ability to research, collect and analyze information to use in determining product options or alternatives.
• Advanced organization and project management skills to lead large or multiple cross-functional teams.
• Advanced oral communication skills to effectively present, negotiate, convey and explain information.
• Advanced written communications skills to draft clear, concise documentation, reports and specifications.
• Ability to lead, build consensus and promote the exchange of information among project team, internal and external constituencies.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software.

Responsibilities

• Leads efforts in evaluating new technologies and industry trends as they emerge and determine if and how they are applicable to current products or services.
• Identifies emerging market targets and serves as the primary contact and / or lead for discussions and negotiations.
• Project Management - develops project plans including goals, deliverables, resources, budget and timelines for launches of products / services / enhancements with significant scope, size, impact and budget or of multiple smaller products of diverse scope.
• Identifies, organizes, and leads technical discussions with key advisory groups and other customers / clients. Leads the identification of additional opportunities for value added product / service delivery based on customer / client / advisory group interaction and feedback.
• Leads the development of marketing and professional outreach activities and informational campaigns to raise awareness of product or service.
• Assembles and leads cross-functional teams for assigned deliverables.
• Acts as product / service liaison across the organization, external agencies, and customers to ensure effective production, delivery and operation of new products, services and / or enhancements.
• Creates metrics / key performance indicators and provides corresponding analysis / reporting.
• Develops and provides periodic content progress reports outlining key activities and progress toward achieving overall goals.
• Ensures the preparation and maintenance of documentation including end-user documentation and release notes.
• May conduct product / service training.
• Assembles and leads cross-functional teams for assigned deliverables.
• Participates in the development of the organization's long-range strategic product plans.
• Demonstrates creativity and ingenuity in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to complex design, financial, marketing, or administrative problems.
• May provide technical consultation to customers to ensure product reliability and responsiveness to problems, complaints and suggestions.
