About The Position

Select Custom Solutions is seeking a Product Development Intern for the Summer of 2026 in La Crosse, WI. This internship offers hands-on experience in food product development, assisting the Innovation team with product innovation, sample preparation, and the day-to-day operations of the sample program. The intern will gain exposure to ingredient handling, formulation support, inventory management, and sample fulfillment, collaborating cross-functionally with Innovation, Sales, and Customer Experience (CX) teams. The role provides an opportunity to learn about food science, ingredient functionality, and the product development lifecycle within a company focused on growth, innovation, and excellence.

Requirements

  • Completion of one (1) year in a Bachelor’s Degree program with technical and/or scientific coursework.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a professional lab environment.
  • Ability to read a batch formulation and correctly weigh up ingredients using appropriate scale.
  • Ability to determine availability of ingredients required to complete the sample request.
  • Ability to use barcode scanner to inventory new ingredient samples.
  • Ability to locate and pull ingredient samples in the warehouses.
  • Ability to prepare samples with special shipping materials.
  • Understand and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and Safety Protocol.
  • Stop any observed unsafe acts and obey facility safety rules and procedures.
  • Correct or report any observed safety hazards.
  • Support safety policies and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data entry accurately and efficiently in various software and databases (Word, Excel, UPS software, SalesForce, Sample Request and Document Manager).
  • Read a batch formulation and correctly weigh up ingredients using appropriate scales.
  • Determine ingredient availability for sample requests.
  • Obtain necessary labels and inserts from Customer Experience.
  • Communicate any problems or delays in sample delivery to Innovation/Sales/CX.
  • Photograph container fills and other visual samples and send digital images.
  • Use a barcode scanner to inventory new ingredient samples.
  • Locate and remove product from inventory as needed.
  • Pull ingredient samples from warehouses to replenish inventory or fulfill sample requests.
  • Follow Quality, Inventory, and Sales guidelines when removing product from inventory.
  • Prepare samples with special shipping materials (e.g., packaging, dry ice) as needed.
  • Box, label, and prepare samples for shipping by daily UPS deadline, arranging for other shipping methods if necessary.
  • Develop a working understanding of food ingredients, brand names, vendors, and internal product codes.
  • Participate in Innovation group activities, including attending meetings, performing clean-up tasks, and working on special projects.
  • Understand and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safety Protocols.
  • Stop unsafe acts, obey safety rules and procedures, and correct or report safety hazards.
  • Support safety policies and programs.
