About The Position

USAA is seeking a dedicated Product Development Director to support the Property and Casualty (P&C) Auto product Design, Build and Modernization area. This role is part of the Modernization Team, leading a high-performing team focused on building and designing products across the country on a new technology stack. The team is transforming how USAA protects its members by modernizing products, processes, experiences, and technology, with a vision to deliver products with purpose and precision through a member-first focus. This role connects strategy to design and execution, ensuring investments align with a smarter, stronger, and more member-centric future. The position is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. Individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office are expected to work on-site four days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, or Statistics; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 8 years relevant experience in Actuary, Underwriting, Marketing, Operations, Financial Services or relevant military experience.
  • Extensive experience in developing, deploying and supporting product and/or integrated suite of products.
  • Experience working through agile product development process, managing multiple products simultaneously.
  • Knowledge and application of Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC).
  • Creative problem solver with hands-on experience in problem framing, qualitative & quantitative research, running product experiments, hypothesis testing and prototyping to launch products at the intersection of Human, Technology and Business dimensions.
  • Navigates through ambiguous contexts with confidence.
  • Ability to break large complex initiatives into smaller manageable features and capabilities and deliver them early and often.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating within complex enterprise P&C product delivery environments across Product, Pricing, Technology, Data, Compliance, and Operations.
  • Familiarity with core insurance platforms such as Guidewire and how product design translates into system configuration.
  • Strong understanding of the end-to-end pricing, rating, and underwriting lifecycle and how decisions impact financial outcomes.
  • Proven ability to translate between business strategy and technical execution across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience contributing to or leading large-scale product or platform transformation efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and drive alignment in highly matrixed organizations without direct authority.
  • Ability to step into in-flight initiatives, build context quickly, and maintain delivery momentum.
  • Balanced product mindset with strong execution discipline across both strategy and delivery.
  • Prior experience within large, regulated financial services or insurance organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Developing new products, overseeing and managing the launch and maturation of new products into target strategic markets.
  • Providing expertise and support for product line initiatives related to product development, compliance, operational and process improvements, claims management, vendor management, product documentation, fulfillment, and/or system releases.
  • Developing digital-first products supporting the needs and risks of USAA Members.
  • Leading the development and launch of new innovative product offerings as well as auxiliary/enhanced features/services for existing products.
  • Maintaining a thorough knowledge of business and underwriting performance for products in scope (e.g., trends, results, etc.).
  • Monitoring, maintaining, and underwriting 'new in market' products post-launch based on product performance, member needs, and competitive changes in the market, including product rules, rates, and forms.
  • Developing recommendations to launch new products and evaluating/deciding to buy/build or ally for individual product(s).
  • Generating creative product and coverage solutions for member needs to ensure a dynamic product development pipeline.
  • Conducting complex analysis of internal and external data and member information to support product strategy formulation and enhance competitive intelligence.
  • Developing and communicating the new product value proposition for individual products.
  • Ensuring sales support is delivered to all distribution channels (e.g., com, mobile, contact center) for proper product positioning to members.
  • Leading the analysis and evaluation of new product performance metrics to make changes to offerings, if necessary, prior to full launch.
  • Coordinating with relevant control partners (Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management) to ensure product offerings comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensuring risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
